'25 QB transfer prospects (Joey Aguilar)

Becht or Robertson and 1WR,1CB.1 OT &1DT and let's roll. I know it's probably wishful thinking at this point. And, this is if we don't lose any returning players. I won't mention names out of respect to them.

This is the dream scenario and would make us very competitive this year. I like the team we have now, but buttoning up those positions will help move the needle into great territory depending on the people we bring in.

I’m not sure Becht is good enough for us to make the playoffs again, but he’s certainly probably the best case scenario given the bind Nico has put us in.

People are going to have to give this staff some grace. There isn’t a lot of talent out there willing to uproot their lives this close to the new season.
Youre a great poster but I fully disagree. In what world is Becht not better than Nico? It'd be a home run.

This is a good point. What gives me hope is that the guys we're talking about (Johnson, Becht, King, etc) don't have high NFL Draft stocks. Mock drafts have them going anywhere from the 4th round to the 7th round. We're not going to get someone like Leavitt or Klubnik who is on track to get paid handsomely next summer, but maybe someone like King feels like a change of scenery could boost their stock and a guaranteed $2M could be the deciding factor. If King or Becht came to Tennessee and led us back to the playoffs, they would likely move above guys like Nussmeier and Mateer and if they have a great season at UT they could become a top 3 QB in the draft by passing LaNorris Sellers and Nico.

There is no world or fantasy where Haynes King is a top 3 QB in the draft. I get he could be one of the best of the scraps that we're left with and that may be the ceiling, but that guy cannot throw the ball more than 10 yards. He would do absolutely nothing to help our problem with deep balls, which is critical for this offense to work. He was horrible at Texas AM, and was a runningback that threw quick passes at GT last year. They literally had a freshman QB that was referred to as their "passing quarterback" that came in on 3rd and longs last year for most of the season.

He almost took iowa state to the playoffs, imagine what he does here with a more qb friendly system and better weapons
The better weapons idea is probably arguable. Matthews, Travis Smith, Brazzell, etc....they've got potential, but none of them have proven to be a Jaylin Noel or Jayden Higgins type guy, yet. Maybe Becht can help raise their level of play, but he was significantly less accurate than Nico, last year. Now, it can be argued that Nico's advantage in that area was the benefit of some easy throws (pitch and catch screens), but Rocco's sub-60% completion percentage for a 3rd year QB with his experience is noteworthy.

Honestly, I've only watched him play 1 half of football and based on that 1 half alone I'd love to see him in orange. I'm not convinced that we have a WR capable of getting behind SEC defenses consistently so I'm not too worried about the deep ball. It wasn't in our arsenal last year because Nico overthrew Thornton every time he was given a chance, and we still made the playoffs. I'm down with having a hard-nosed smash mouth guy like King under center in 2025. But I'm start texting my friends that we're going to win the natty if we get Becht :)

The fascination with Haynes King is really shocking. If he were to be Florida, Georgia, or Bama's best option at QB, we'd be laughing at them.

I would like to see UT give Merk a chance. I mean he committed to us knowing that Nico was the plan. What better sign of solidarity than to reward current players with that kind of integrity.
He was ready to sit behind Nico this year and be the #2 QB, waiting for next year to start, if CJH can improve the team he should, if a new QB from the portal would improve the team he should do it.

Great kid and he will give his all, but he is not a starting QB in the SEC. Great backup. We have to upgrade

I seem to be in the minority here, but I would love to get Brown from USF. I'd imagine he probably won't cost a whole lot, and he knows this system from being with Golesh the last couple of years.

Had over 4,000 all-purpose yards in 2023 before getting hurt last year
I think it’s a better option than relying on Merk and GMAC and a warm body to “compete.”

He does fit the profile. Not sure if Heupel would do that to Golesh though. Has the potential to derail Golesh's career. If Brown returns to 2023 form USF could make a run and Golesh could get a big-time job offer. It is a business though, after all.

If they wanted a guy who can start and a guy who fits the system it's Alonza Barnett. They could get him much easier than the Big 12 guys, and I d take hime over Becht. He s just shorter that's it.

Why would we? I can guarantee you that if he were at UGA or Bama right now, he would be the starting QB in 2025.

King is a good QB that is dynamic with the ball in his hands.

Becht been at Iowa State his entire career, he's not gonna pull a Nico on his team. Need to get a guy who has bounced around for a one year rental.
Counterpoint: Becht has been running for his life in Ames and he may want more money. Not saying it is a done deal, but he is originally from Florida and may be looking to prove it on a bigger stage with more money in his pocket.

Georgia wasn't laughing at him last year.

I agree though he is too specialized in his skillset. Tough, good runner, and good for a few dinks and dimes, but lacking the deep ball is a huge red flag for what we need. King works in GTs offense because it is totally specialized around his skillset.

I wonder if Nico will will end up replacing a quarterback that we take from another school for a discount while we end up paying a premium.
