QB Ryan Staub commits to UT

If one of the two best QBs would have signed, we would lose one our 5* QBs and the future ofbthe QB room would not be as good as is now. This sets the future up perfectly. .
that didn't answer the question at all. JH was either "all in" on our current QBs and didn't offer anyone else or the opposite.

No, there are other options, he could have been driving up the cost to the winner by upping the number BUT BUT BUT with secret conditions that the players would not accept OR share with the other bidders. Just never thought he REALLY was going 5mil on an injured guy.

If Mac does real well; it again shows Hype's inability to evaluate qb. He tried to get a qb in transfer portal to be a starter but was outbid.
I’m as critical as anyone of JH but I don’t believe this is the case. College football is a win now or get the boot sport, more so now than ever with the portal. If you can get a proven commodity in the portal, you do it and try to win now. Coaches are in a tough spot. It’s hard to compare what Heup has seen of Mac in practice to what everyone has seen of leavitt in the national spotlight. There’s a reason everyone was after leavitt. He’s proven, injury aside.

The days of throwing a young QB on the field and taking your lumps are over. That is if you can help it. Coaches simply can’t survive in this current world of coaching putting a product on the field that can’t get you to the post season. Not serious programs anyway.

Simply not the case in the portal world. Heup could really like what he sees in Mac, but if a proven commodity becomes available still go that route. Mac can look good in practice, but the staff still has 0 idea how that translates into SEC play.

Football is very much a win now or go home sport. Coach isn’t playing for 2027. Coach is trying to put the best players on the field for 2026.

I agree with what you are saying, but this being the case why even recruit hs players,, especially at qb? They are getting paid to ride the pine.

Must have got him for a dime. His stats are not very good.

12 total games
53/99 for a 53.5% completion rate
681 passing yards
56.8 passing yards/game
4/4 TDs/int
33 rushes for 8 yards and 1 TD

Honestly, even if he can add 10-15 pounds of muscle, he'd be in good shape physically. He looks bigger than he did a year ago.

Biggest concern: with 2 Freshmen competing for the starting QB job, we're probably looking at, best case scenario, a 2026 season similar to Texas' season in 2025. Offense is going to struggle the 1st half of the season. Hopefully we come on strong by end of the year, but playoffs will be an uphill climb. And even our OOC game isn't a gimme - it's Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
Agreed

And whose fault is that???
I see what you’re trying to get at, but in reality it’s Mac’s fault. If he was better than JA don’t you think we would’ve seen him more last year?

Coaches don’t have the luxury of “playing for next year” any more. In this Wild West portal era, it’s win now or find another job. We fans (me included) are as impatient as anyone.

Some here say they’d rather see us playing for the future but they’re just lying. If we were to lose a game “playing for the future” they’d be the ones here screaming fahr everyone.

Let the best player be the starting QB. It doesn't matter who it is, GMAC, Brandon, or Staub. Just play the guy that gives us the best shot to win.

Only on Sundays. And only when this silly “QB must weigh X lbs is entertained”. Either he’s ready to play or he’s not. A few boxes of fudge rounds ain’t gonna improve his football IQ.
I just did some research on comparing injuries by the players size. Apparantly larger players actually get hurt more than smaller players do.

If GMac balls out, Faizon wont stick around. He wont sit for 2 years, and the damn jackals will come sniffing around and pay him 10 million to come play for them.
No one unproven is getting 10 million. My guess is Staub backs up GMac and Brandon sits this year. Most likely Heupel won’t even let any opposing teams see where Brandon is in his development.

I see where GMac is listed at 6’6 195 lbs
Brandon Faizon is listed at 6’4 200 lbs

So is Brandon considered too small to play QB in the SEC also? According to many on here that would seem to be the case.
Faizon is somewhat small in his frame. GMac is a bean pole in his. Regardless, can they run the offense at the level needed right now? Should've got a QB to give them another year to develop.

I was being hyperbolic on the dollar amount, but no doubt the rest of what I said is true.

At the very least it would’ve been nice not to waste reps on Merklinger this year since they knew he wasn’t going to cut it here. Yeah they didn’t want him to check out midseason, but if we had to play him the season was sunk anyway.
