Except that his other offers before UT were Portland St. and New Mexico.

I think we need to make a move for Kevin Newsome Quick and make him our priority. Also heard Taj Boyd (WVU commit) was looking around.

sam bradford 3 star
matt ryan 3 star
colt mccoy 3 star
chase daniels 3 star
todd reisleng 3 star

not bad to be a 3 star qb at the moment...lot of busts lately from 4 and 5 stars

I love when people cite 5-6 other 3 stars that are good whenever we get one...

of course there are exceptions, but that doesn't mean anything.

it's like when your favorite NFL team drafts a QB in the 6th round and you say, "well, tom brady was a 6th round draft pick"...its nothing more than an exception to the norm

But Nick Stephens was a 3* prospect from Texas...

There is a top qb in Memphis (best in the state) that apparently we really never had a shot at.

I thought Crompton was a 5* and rated #3 qb in the country at the time he signed with Vols.
he was a 5* on Scout (which means little) and a 4* on rivals...

he was the #2 pro style QB on rivals and was around #50 or so in the rivals100

all i was pointing out is that not all 3 stars suck..... the kid did get a nebraska offer and and was being looked at by other big-time schools

Ratings are overrated and exceptions to ever rule. The biggest thing is that we were competing against Portland St. and New Mexico instead of top programs.

Thats the number one thing i look at when we recruit someone.

I think unless the recruit is a consensus 5* across the board (Berry, Pryor caliber) it is still a gamble as to how good they will be.

Actually it is nothing like that. Star rating systems can be highly arbitrary and aren't nearly as accurate as most of you think

ugh, I don't want to get into the star debate again...they are predictions and nothing more...but they are a reasonably good barometer for evaluating potential...
