Ok Merk is out as he is locked behind George and Joey. So if Joey doesn’t return and we go out and pay for a new signal caller what happens if hypothetically speaking George turns and says see ya. What so we are going to pay top dollar for two? We don’t know what has been told to George. About his future especially now with faizon arriving soon.

So he’s a RS Freshman next season. Basically hasn’t lost any time.
The coaches told him he would have a chance to compete in 2026.
They let the competition happen in the fall because they wanted Merklinger to have a shot.
The same will happen with GMAC next fall.
Along with Brandon and whoever the transfer portal guy is.
So the coaches will have an opportunity to recruit more HS talent at QB for 2027 while Faizon and GMAC are sill on the roster.

GMAC leaves after 2026. Faizon will have a full year as the starter, and you have a developmental HS QB, and then you bring in another Gaston Moore type if you have to.

That’s what they will bring in the next few weeks. A Gaston Moore type imo.
Let them all battle and GMAC and Faizon will be either 1 or 2

That would be a mistake. Keep JA if he gets the extra year expected soon. If not you go get a good QB.

I thought it was just a joke about JA coming back for another year, especially when he joined grand pa Pavia's suit . If this is true, I could get excited about next season esp' with the new DC and top 5 class in recruits. I'd like to see him play another year.

We went to the playoff with a RSFr QB
You all are making way more out of the QB that in it actually is. Was NICO so unstoppable his only year a starter at Tennessee?

We have run game, defense and special teams.

Why is it so unbelievable that Faizon Brandon will be as good as Nico was his RS Fr year??

Made the playoffs in spite of Nico (the one GOOD year we had a defense).

Defense was straight azz this year.

*"special teams" is right, because they've been lacking as well.

Spending $4M for a one year QB seems like a waste of money to me because we aren’t going to win a natty until the defense gets fixed. I’d buy a budget QB who would provide legitimate competition to Gmac and Faizon and let the best man win. Focus resources toward impact defenders. When we have a top 10 defense, then you go get an elite QB if there isn’t one already on the roster.

I rather go with qb we have on the roster, put nil to use on defense this year, rather than getting a 3 or 4 milliion dollar 1 yr qb

Well, hypothetically speaking of course, there is not one person on our planet that knows who is going to be on our roster come September. So, hypothetically, it is impossible to answer such a hypothetical question/s.

But stay tuned - this is the exciting off season. Strap yourself in if ya have the stomach, cuz lots will happen to our roster in the next 9 months. LOTS!!!!!!!!!!!

If we go pay for a portal QB, it ain’t for him to ride the pine. Same situation as last year.

There’s many journeyman QBs that can come to Tennessee to ask to complete.
You all are making this way to complicated.

Doesn’t mean they will win the job.

At some point you have to play the QBs you recruit

It’s not complicated. If we bring someone in it’s with the thought that they can compete for that job.

I agree. I’d love to see us starting some HS recruited, developed talent. But coaches get paid to win now whether it’s with a portal QB or a HS recruit. That’s the bottom line.

Year 6, it is what it is. You can be happy with 1 playoff appearance in 6 years. I won't be.
