QB play has been bad, but WRs not much better

The more I watch, the more I'm starting to think the problem with Worley is that he isn't in tune with his receivers yet. Pig is our best WR so far, and that makes sense cause he's the most experienced...but Worley seems to find Pig exactly where he wants him and when he does he's very accurate and hits him in stride (TD pass and the wheel route for the big gain).

I've noticed that when Worley throws inaccurately to a WR like the first throw to North, it seems that they are standing still. Makes me wonder if they are stopping or breaking off their routes or not where he's expecting them to be (running too deep, coming out of their cuts slowly, etc).

Also, drops have been bad lately too, and you can't put those on the QB.

I am glad someone else is seeing this besides me. A lot of these guys were playing high school ball last year. The more experience our WR's get the better the QB play will be.

Armchair coaches will disagree, but that is why they are in the lazboy on game day and not lending their expert opinions to CBJ. Hopefully some of them can see the light.

That and the offensive line hasnt exactly lived up to the hype. It's easy to jump routes when you don't have to worry about the run due to lack of push from the big guys. I saw James stone get drivin back 3-5 yards in the back field several times over the past 2 weeks. When the front 4 can get pressure like that drop and play zone the whole game

Butch said it himself, its not all on the QB's. The receivers are not running their routes right sometimes and that throws everything off

I think Worley has done better than most credit him for. Its his first year leading the team running a brand new scheme with the young WRs. Seemed to me that when he finally got put in the florida game the whole team started pinning its ears back and playing like they should of been the whole time, the O line held, people were where they shoulda been doing they're job. Prolly get flamed but that's what I saw.

I agree totally! I've yet be impressed with any of our WRs, other than Pig. And the line has not played as well as expected, either.

The receivers are not where they need to be and it's becoming really painfully obvious as the season goes on. The drops are KILLING us. As I said on another post, if Smith, Croom, and North actually catch the multiple passes that have hit them in the hands this season, Bajakian and Worley look like geniuses.

At this point, I would take a squad of slow possession receivers that can actually catch a ball over one chock full of incredible athletes that can't hang on to anything. I understand Worley and Peterman aren't exactly the greatest passers, but it's getting ridiculous. I'm watching too many easy completions die because a receiver dropped the ball.

I trust Coach Z to get it done, but something has got to happen here.

Bad routes and Not Catching the Football can sure make a QB look bad.

Which gets to a bigger, but related subject. Shortage of talent.

Just look at speed (one aspect of talent). We will continue to get burned by the better teams because they all have speed. We don't.

Wait til next year. In the meantime, just try to improve on the basics.

Josh Smith sure doesn't look like a sure handed receiver to me.... Dude has been a catalyst so far

Funny how people say that our line hasn't played well. Hard to block 7-8 hats on every play when there is no passing threat whatsoever.....

People also talk about our defense but don't realize the serious effect of a 65-35 time possession ratio on each of our losses.

As bad as the route running and catching the ball are, I think the receivers are absolutely pathetic at blocking. On the bubble screen that Florida scored on, the other receiver helped him break free. TN runs the same play and get nothing as the other receivers cannot or do not block. Worse blocking I have ever seen!

Unlike the past few years, I expect to see this team get better as the season goes on. Even with the beat down at Oregon, the defense is better than last year. I know that isn't saying much but it is improvement. As the offense gets better, I think this team will be much better at the end of the year than at the beginning. It's frustrating when we lose but I expected as much. We haven't had a typical UT recruiting class, top 5, in at least 6-8 years. In the same time period, our biggest rivals have stockpiled talent. I hate it but it's going to take several very good classes to get us back to that level. I think CBJ can get it done but an upset win over somebody sure would make the process easier to endure.

Its funny that people are really complaining about the WR's and yet a bunch on this board have complained about how many highly regarded WR's we are bringing in for 14.

Being highly regarded as a recruit is one thing and producing on the field is another. I think it's not so much a lack of talent, but rather just the offense as a whole is just not in sync.
