QB Options 2021

Just wanted to see where everyone's head was at with the position going into next season. Below is what is running through my mind:

QB1: Harrison Bailey - hopefully has more of the playbook, more confidence for himself and from the coaching staff, and has developed a little more.
QB2: Brian Maurer - I think he sticks around and tries to win the job during the QB battle during the offseason
QB3: Kaidon Salter - obviously tons of talent but will need some time to adjust and could sneak up the depth chart with his ability to make plays

JT Shrout to transfer out, possibly to somewhere back at on the west coast where he is from

Potential transfer QBs:
James Foster (A&M) - we were high on this kid out of HS and has potential but not enough playing time to take a risk on him
Tate Martell (Miami) - I know I know... but I still can't get over how dominant he was in HS. He's got clear ego issues but maybe cornbread could get him straight.
Tanner Mordecai (Oklahoma) - seen what he can do and he is very solid
John Rhys Plumlee (Ole Miss) - could be upset with now being the clear #2
Mckenzie Milton (UCF) - unfortunately this is Dillon Gabriel's team now. I'm still high on Milton even with the knee issues.

Let me know what y'all think.
Since you asked....
Cornbread has shown no indication that he even knows what a straight QB looks like.

It is my understanding that Shrout is very content being a backup quarterback. I believe that he dates are really cute softball player. Just living the life as the backup quarterback.

Bailey and Salter are the future. And looking at 2022, either Horn or Simpson look like great options.
I think Simpson sees that we've killed QB careers over the last several years and will be scared to come here. May take his chances at Clemson tbh

I think I come to these threads just to see the train wreck. I am sure that has to say something about me.

I’ll never understand why people are so high on Maurer...dude is terrible. We’ve seen him play, it ain’t good. If he leaves, he’ll transfer down, 100% not in the SEC lol
He’ll make a lateral move if he decides to move on. I’m almost positive of that. Don’t forget Trask is a senior this year, Jones isn’t a very accurate passer and Gainesville is only 45 minutes from his home town. There’s also Florida State that’s in desperate need of a qb. UGA could also come after him. JT Daniels obviously isn’t what the services claimed he was and Mathis doesn’t seem to be living up to his rank either. Then there’s Ole Miss. BM is a Lane Kiffin kind of qb and they both have the same kind of approach to the game. They will both willingly go down swinging while trying to hang 50 on every opponent from the qb position.

Point is you don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re judging a kid based on how things have went at UT. The same UT that’s being exposed as we speak for not preparing qbs. If there’s one qb on this roster that you better hope doesn’t transfer to a rival school, it’s BM.

I hope HB doesn’t transfer. 😏

I fully expected Bailey to be starting this year. I was thinking he could be the next Peyton Manning. I know the Covid has limited some of his practice time, but I expected he would be ready by now. I am a bit concerned on his progress!

I am starting to think Salter will play a lot next year! This guy is killing it this year on his HS team. It is going to be a pocket passer vs dual treat QB next year. I think both will play a good amount.

Nowhere near as subtle as you about Maurer. 😉
I just think UT is about to make a major mistake. When/if that mistake is realized, it’ll be too late and be viewed as “par for the course” for this staff. What do I gain by being right? A thought that “damn! 1vol8 was right!”? That’s not what I want. I would rather see UT get it’s qb so the fans can enjoy football the way they used to and rightfully deserve. Maybe that guy IS Bailey. No one knows. What we do know is the O line is not good. There is no dynamic WRs and the defense is almost as bad as the offense. I’m not sure many have thought about those things. Bailey isn’t very mobile to get away from bad O line play. He doesn’t have a “Gilbert” to “go get” the passes like he did in HS and the defense will have him playing from behind if he can’t overcome the first two weaknesses.

He had the worst OL in GA his first three years in high school and still put up monster numbers because he can get away from pressure and still deliver the ball.

Gilbert didn't "go get" passes. They were always hitting him right in stride and allowing him to run. Bailey didn't throw the ball up for anyone to just go get. Gilbert actually probably cost Bailey the state record for passing yards in a year, he had about 20 drops last season.

If you bring in a transfer to make Bailey the backup, he needs to transfer. He's a top 5 QB in GA high school history. He'd go somewhere with a decent coaching staff and kill it.

Ok invert that and it’d still be cool.

I know the narratives. I’ll be here either way. 😴

Old article compared to start of season...Seems like months have passed since we've won a game...I'm sorry, but Wienke hasn't added any value since he's been here...
