I don't care if we get #1 Peanut or #1 Ramone or #47 Bubba or whoever, we've been there before! UT SIMPLY needs good coaching. How much simplier is that?

Ask yourself how many times have we been ranked w top 10, 5, 1 classes and developed them to barely rank Nationally, SEC, SECE, etc.

actually i think fulmer develops them rather well.... I mean does he not have the most players in the nfl since 1998 or something like that??? at least top 3..

ummm i think Nick Stephens is a good pick up, but i can't but help to think about Jim Clausen waiting in the wings. Do you think we have a shot on picking him up next year?

ok. here comes bad cop.
why do we need stephens? just to go up the recruiting top 25. big deal. it means jack. we have crompton with 4 years left and ainge with 2. this means nothing.
we need o-linemen, linebackers, d-tackles and safeties. and an allamerican reciever.
forget about qbs

You can never have enough quality QBs in the program. The better the competition in practice, the better product you get on game day. One problem this past year was the fact that Ainge was the only QB that physically could make all the throws- deep outs, dig routes ect. However, the coaching staff did not have him ready, mentally or with fundamental mechanics. IMO they should have named him the starter in spring and stuck with him. Clausen should have never been given a hint of playing time unless due to injury of Ainge. I have nothing against Clausen but the coaches knew his physical limitations which translates to limited playbook/options with the offense. Ainge should have been coached hard to get ready for the 06 season, that means 75-80 % of the reps in practice from spring on and their total commitment. That didn't happen and I believe the play @ the QB position in 06 was largely responsible for the complete lack of production by the offense. Game management and execution was horrible. In the end I think the (offensive) coaching staff did a disservice to Ainge.

I would ask myself that but I can't seem to get around asking myself how many times you post the same things. Mental block I guess....

Nick Stephens was a good pickup. Cut wanted a QB and this was the guy left that they wanted.

it all depends on what happens next year. we might get clausen, we might not. but it is nice to have a backup plan.

Clausen is favoring ND and USC right now but there's still plenty of time. There's no telling what can happen. I think we were falling out of favor with Jimmy but have now leveled out below ND and USC. We just might start to move back up the list, but I wouldn't count on it.

A lot of current players have a myspace page, and so do most recruits. I've seen many on there.

Jesse Mahelona had one, and it was a nice way to keep up with how things were going for him......but the common idiots started aggrevating him and became unbearable.......so he shut his page down. I hope that doesn't happen to any of these other kids. That's why I'd never dream of posting the link to any of their pages on a message board.

yeah...... I hate it when random people bug me on mine... like i have wished a couple good games a couple times but besides that eh.. I got better things to do besides bug the players... btw if anyone once my myspace just holla ;)

I think this is a bigger pickup than alot of people think. When it comes to these rankings, the players really establish themselves as juniors and stephens didn't get his chance to do that. I also saw film of him last night and it looked like he has pretty good feet(i.e he doesn't trip over his own feet or a blade of grass when presured ala Rick and Casey). It could be wishful thinking and he could end up sitting ebhind JC for four years but I just think he is better than his ranking.

Does anyone think that there is even a remote possibility that Cut went after this guy to P.O. his former employer?

redshirt him, he will be playing by his junior year, JC won't be around that long......... trust me ;) (the kid will do some very special things here)

With Schaeffer committing to Ole Miss Stephens was all but shoved out the door. And with most teams needing a QB already having one, his options were limited. We lucked up on timing for this kid.

I think he'll outperform his rankings. His stats would have been higher had transfer rules not hindered him his Junior year. I have a friend who lives close to Stephens' hometown who says this kid could easily compare to Stafford as far as TX HS QB's. Stephens' team played some harder defenses and missing some playing time made his stats lower than they could have been. Maybe we picked up a top 4 or 5 star QB without even realizing it. Or perhaps Cut did and that's why he's here.

ummm... If Crompton stays healthy and is as good as I have heard, then we will probably have to wait until the fall of 2010 to see Stephens take the field as a starter for the first time as a 5th year senior. By then you guys will be talking about the next great up and coming qb in the recruiting class.

They got Schaeffer, we got Stephens. Fair enough. The kid did an interview with some of the tennessee sportscasters while Ole Miss was in his living room...classic.

ummm...is that scenario supposed to be a bad thing?
I think he is being overhyped on the board here. I beleive all this hype about him now will soon be forgotten and he will be just another guy deep in the depth chart. He is simply insurance. We already have 2 quality qb's for the next 2 seasons and crompton for 2 more after that. I personally do not think he will ever start a game at UT. He wont wait until his 5th year to start and will probably transfer.

I think that's the most likely situation 72. But if Ainge remains a head case and JC doesn't pan out for whatever reason, then I think its pretty obvious this guy is a much better Plan C than say Hardegree or Cooter.
