Crompton faced 6 top 25 pass Ds compared to Tyturd who played 4. Here are Crompton's games against top-25 pass Ds.

UF - 3rd in nation in pass D -----------------------Cromptdaddy's stats: 11-19, 93 yds, 2 INT
Bama - 7th in nation pass D ----------------------Cromptdaddy's stats: 21-36, 265 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Vanderbilt- 9th nation pass D ---------------------Cromptdaddy's stats: 20-34, 221 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT
South Carolina - 12th nation pass D -----------Cromptdaddy's stats: 12-24, 142 yds, 2 TD
Ole Miss - 16th nation pass D --------------------Cromptdaddy's stats: 20-37, 176 yds, 2 TD
Kentucky - 18th nation pass D --------------------Cromptdaddy's stats: 13-23, 220 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT

Tyturd played these top 25 pass Ds:

Bama - see above ------------------------------------Tyturd's stats : 9-20, 91 yds
N Carolina - 14th nation pass D ------------------Tyturd's stats: 11-23, 161 yds
Virginia - 21st nation pass D -----------------------Tyturd's stats: 8-15, 185 yds, 1 INT
Nebraska- 25th nation pass D --------------------Tyturd's stats: 12-27, 192 yds, 1 TD

Tyturd only had ONE TD against the top 25 pass Ds that he played while Crompton had 10. Tyturd also completed less than 50 percent of his passes while Crompton was well above 50 percent completion.

The numbers aren't even comparable.

As for this matchup, Va Tech has the 6th best pass D in the nation based on yards per game allowed while UT has the 10th best pass D. Judging by track record, I'll be very surprised if Tyturd throws a TD against us. We are the best pass D he will have played besides Bama and his numbers were medicore in that game.

Tyrod's one TD was on the last play of the game against Nebraska as well on a desperation heave.

Crunch also said he would not watch the UGA game if Crompton started because UT would have no chance. It turned out to be Crompton's coming out party as a quality SEC QB! Plus UT dominated UGA, with Crompton leading the offense!

Sorry Crunch had to call you on that one - an epic fail for all time. :p

But nice analysis in this thread. VT looked good in recent highlights I watched from their romp over BC.

I don't think there's much question that if it comes down to which QB can win the game with his arm Crompton gets the nod.

There's little question in my mind that UT has played the better competition. I like that the talking heads are picking VT. I think it contributes to UT's prep.

The Vols will be healthier so the depth issues that hurt their play in a few wins and contributed to some losses won't be as big of a factor. The play at LB should be shored up alot as they've had this extra time to work with the guys.

I like UT's chances.

Actually, the desperation heave was the 81 yarder (DB let the receiver get behind and outside him) to set up the touchdown on 3rd and goal with 21 seconds left - Suh was hanging on to Tyrod's jersey.

Final play of the game was an interception of Lee.

However, your basic premise is correct. The game was all over except for the fat lady singing before the miracle. Amazingly enough, I actually saw some hokies leaving and they missed it all. Silly fairweather fans

A win over a highly ranked VT team on National TV will do wonders for the momentum of the program, IMO. This is one of the biggest bowl games for UT in sometime in that respect - so much to gain with a win.

It's not their passing game that i'm worried about!!! Ole Miss didn't have to pass to beat us! However, I know we had a beat up defense that should be ready to play against this run team! I think we pull it out.

As I've been saying, we will limit them to a single dimension, and with a relatively healthy defense we should be able to shut them down.

I'm talking like 150-200 total offensive yards for the Hokies.

But I may be biased.

Crompton is no doubt the better passer. Unfortunately, the qb position is only one of 22 on the field.

What worries me most is special teams play. VT is always strong on ST and we tend to struggle there. I have seen VT win games on ST more than once. It seems they do it fairly regularly. They also seem to win games with big defensive plays (ints for TDs etc...).

If we can contain their running game I think we have a good shot to win.

Could the number of SEC teams with top 25 pass defenses not partly be an artifact of there not being a lot of great QB play in the SEC this last year? Let's face it: outside of Florida, Arkansas, and to a lesser extent Auburn and Tennessee, I don't think teams in the league have been very solid there. That has to have an impact on season defensive totals.

Just sayin'.

"Tyturd"? Just curious, how old are you crunch?

I was pissed at a Va TYech fan on another message board when I originally posted this. Normally I don't insult other players but he got to me with his non stop bad mouthing of Crompton compared to Tyturd. I want to see us obliterate this team, but I think it should be relatively close unless we force some early turnovers like against South Carolina.

Was it any better in the ACC?

Tyturd? If you're over the age of 16, reconsider your life

Crompton's obviously turned into a pretty good QB over the course of this season. He's a better passer than Taylor, but Taylor is certainly dangerous with his running ability. I hope we don't game plan around that, though.

Monte is probably rather comfortable against this offense. Keep Taylor in the pocket and make him pass. Game over.
