oh yeah, half this board will be excuse mongering if Tennessee goes out and starts losing. "well what did you expect would happen when we had to replace a starting QB at the last minute" guaranteed.Urban Meyer would NEVER say that about Ohio State. "People won't care if Ohio State goes out and loses 5 or 6 games......" They would. No matter the situation, losing one player and having that crater your season isn't acceptable.
Yes. Yes, Urban, people will care. Yes, UT is making the best of a bad situation but there are and there will be expectations that "no one is bigger than the Power T" and giving a full pass for the late loss of Nico seems to be saying he was THAT important.
Usually takes losing to Vanderbilt and Kentucky, before the majority gets on the same page and begins demanding a coaching change. For right now, relax and let the 2025 season drama play out.oh yeah, half this board will be excuse mongering if Tennessee goes out and starts losing. the rest of us will be saying Tennessee should win no matter what.
only time will tell what Tennessee ACTUALLY does but my guess is winning a bunch of games and making the playoffs won't be the answer.
I will take a gunslinger in a shoot out any day over a kid to scared to even draw his pistol against AR and just runs away to safety at the end,
I never got the bad taste out of my mouth after that game. He ran out of bounds without even trying to gun one into the end zone in a five point game. DAYUM!I will take a gunslinger in a shoot out any day over a kid to scared to even draw his pistol against AR and just runs away to safety at the end,
And if their WRs couldn't get separation or catch a cold, he got perfect training for his coming season at UT.I like this addition. I realize that many people have a negative perception of Aguilar and his numbers at App State, but if you watch his game footage, you will see that the O-line was horrible last season. Time will tell, but I trust Coach Heupel's assessment.
I think 8 -9 wins is ceilingoh yeah, half this board will be excuse mongering if Tennessee goes out and starts losing. "well what did you expect would happen when we had to replace a starting QB at the last minute" guaranteed.

I don’t think Heup gives guarantees like thatWhy would he come here, unless he has a guarantee to start, If he is recruited for a back up I am all for it. But imo he is coming to be the starter without taking the first snap regardless of how Merk and Mac perform. I am all UT Vols fan and just hope Hype is right.
I don’t think we’re paying him 7 figures to come in and sit on the bench. He’s here to get us back to the CFP.I'd wager he met what CJH was looking for. Someone that has enough to possibly win hte job, but was good coming in knowing he may be QB2 and has 4 months to win QB1. And Merck knows he's not out as QB1, but also has the same 4 months to now win QB1. Aguilar checked all the boxes. Didn't cost you either of your two highly rated QB's as they were closing out spring practice till the last day knowing they'd still be back-ups in '25. But, Merck now has a shot to shine, and GMac is still where he was expected to be regardless. No harm, no foul. Aguilar appears to have skills that were good enough to get offered the spot, so if he's good enough to win out over the next 4 months, so be it.
It's funny but I've seen multiple comments that "Heupel had his man with Milton and he was the starter no matter what."I don’t think Heup gives guarantees like that
You could tell App State had schemed the Clemson game as such. The ball was coming out within 2 seconds or less because they could not protect him. DB's were also sitting on every route because of this. Bad scenario for Joey. He gets a mulligan on that one.And if their WRs couldn't get separation or catch a cold, he got perfect training for his coming season at UT.
I think we gave 1.2 mil because at this point of the calendar - there was not any choice. I don't think you can't get an experienced qb this time of the year for any less. At least not one you want playing the position at a high caliber SEC school. I have no idea what UT is thinking - but, I'd think of it like this - I pay 1.2 mil for qb I feel I could trust in a game, I'm saving a mil over my former qb - so I have some money left to sure another position or two, we coach them all up over the next few months, throw all three qb's out there in the Spring and see what happens. The best man wins. Joey isn't going anywhere else. You might have to pony up some more NIL money if one of the other two win the starting position and play well. Just let itself play out and see what happens.
ESPN quoted Pete Thamel as having sources saying he had $1.2M at UCLA and that his UT deal is similar "after the difference in taxes."Really hope for some facts, not speculation on his NIL deal. If we just matched his UCLA deal that would be a big raise due to no state income tax and TN vs CA cost of living. He was motivated to leave. HOPE we got a bargain. Should KNOW soon.
What? The 3 interceptions game did count in that number; that’s part of the 5 total interceptions during the COVID season at Virginia Tech.Does the three interception game not count? He also only attempted 312 passes in his main two years at VaTech compared to 850 for JA in his main two years at App State. Logically if Hooker had 500 more pass attempts in his career, it would look much different statistically. Everybody focuses on his interceptions but he also threw 56 touchdowns during that same time frame.
Doubt one season determines his future at utUsually takes losing to Vanderbilt and Kentucky, before the majority gets on the same page and begins demanding a coaching change. For right now, relax and let the 2025 season drama play out.
With the Nico departure, the stage is set and it will either be Heupels finest hour, or it will be curtains.
Someone should write a book of this saga. I'd buy it in a heartbeatVols history could be a whole series going all the way back to Kiffin, then the Dooley fiasco, Butch's total meltdown. the Schiano night of the long knives, the Gruden jet tracker, then the Phil Fulmer coup that upended the AD, the McDonaldsGate that forced Fulmer and Pruitt out. Just when things get stable, you get NicoGate. You throw in all the behind the scenes drama with the Haslams basically playing the Ewing family in Dallas and orchestrating everything behind the scenes. I think only Auburn can rival us in football program drama and intrigue.
