Yes. Yes, Urban, people will care. Yes, UT is making the best of a bad situation but there are and there will be expectations that "no one is bigger than the Power T" and giving a full pass for the late loss of Nico seems to be saying he was THAT important.

oh yeah, half this board will be excuse mongering if Tennessee goes out and starts losing. "well what did you expect would happen when we had to replace a starting QB at the last minute" guaranteed.

the rest of us will be saying Tennessee should win no matter what.

only time will tell what Tennessee ACTUALLY does but my guess is winning a bunch of games and making the playoffs won't be the answer.

Usually takes losing to Vanderbilt and Kentucky, before the majority gets on the same page and begins demanding a coaching change. For right now, relax and let the 2025 season drama play out.

With the Nico departure, the stage is set and it will either be Heupels finest hour, or it will be curtains.

Even IF Merklinger or GMac are the real deal, we won't know until at least halfway through the season if they started every game so this notion that a proven starter is a mistake is nonsense. With JA, assuming he does a serviceable job, you can ease the other two into the starting position for next year. Regardless, there are going to be transfers at the qb position. The days of grooming quarterbacks and them sitting on the bench for two years waiting their turn are probably over

I never got the bad taste out of my mouth after that game. He ran out of bounds without even trying to gun one into the end zone in a five point game. DAYUM!

I like this addition. I realize that many people have a negative perception of Aguilar and his numbers at App State, but if you watch his game footage, you will see that the O-line was horrible last season. Time will tell, but I trust Coach Heupel's assessment.

And if their WRs couldn't get separation or catch a cold, he got perfect training for his coming season at UT.

But, Merck now has a shot to shine, and GMac is still where he was expected to be regardless. No harm, no foul. Aguilar appears to have skills that were good enough to get offered the spot, so if he's good enough to win out over the next 4 months, so be it.

It's funny but I've seen multiple comments that "Heupel had his man with Milton and he was the starter no matter what."

I was told just days ago that "Nico was going to start no matter if Merk or G-Mac were better because of what we paid."

Aguilar is said to be getting $1.5M???? something like that. I've not heard or can't recall what Merk and G-Mac got to come to UT, but I suspect some will say "we paid for Aguilar to come and start no matter what."

Some people DO believe Heupel might not voice the guarantee but when he has his man, he goes blind to the QB competition.

I don't, but I won't be at all surprised to see it said on VN.

You could tell App State had schemed the Clemson game as such. The ball was coming out within 2 seconds or less because they could not protect him. DB's were also sitting on every route because of this. Bad scenario for Joey. He gets a mulligan on that one.

Really hope for some facts, not speculation on his NIL deal. If we just matched his UCLA deal that would be a big raise due to no state income tax and TN vs CA cost of living. He was motivated to leave. HOPE we got a bargain. Should KNOW soon.

ESPN quoted Pete Thamel as having sources saying he had $1.2M at UCLA and that his UT deal is similar "after the difference in taxes."

It could be $1M, I guess, and there might be a 200k tax difference.

I trust Pete Thamel to have decent sources, though.

What? The 3 interceptions game did count in that number; that’s part of the 5 total interceptions during the COVID season at Virginia Tech.
I was mainly addressing the guy’s comment that Hooker was an interception machine before Heupel coached him…Hooker was never an INT machine there (if anything his biggest issue at VT was injury recurrence / staying healthy, but INTs were never a major or recurring problem for him at any part of his career ).
