QB Joey Aguilar commits to UT from portal

I agree we needed a back up, but don't think we needed a starter. Or else Hype has mis evaluated our two qb on the roster now.
I love these types on comments. Do you know what CJH has in mind? Or are you just laying out two negative outcomes? If Aquilar is better, he will start. If he is not, he will be a very experienced backup. We needed a third QB, so there we have one.

I do feel like he's going to surprise us in a good way but he's not our Savior. He's going to be a serviceable guy that shows some magic every once in a while. If he had a full spring and fall camp with the team, I would feel a lot better about the situation. He's not a bad pick up. just bad timing.

So you need to be a junior at UT before you have the experience to start? Experience comes from playing, and imo get the experience this year or else we have an inexperienced qb for next year. And if it turned out he was really good, you have him for only one year, because he will hit the NFL draft
Again, you have no idea what the gameplan is. Wait until the fall camp starts before you make ANY decisions. If he is coming in to start, I would have expected one of the two projected starters to bolt. If he is coming to compete for the starting job, it will help all three in the long term.

How do you figure that? Neither were starting this year anyway. If Aguilar is named the starter, absolutely nothing changes for Merk or Mac. Now, next year will be another story when Faizon comes in. It will be a 3-way QB battle and someone will likely transfer out.

Well looks like to no qb competition. He has the starting position or else he would not have transferred. We will probably lose Merk or Mac one, which either of them has much more potential than this one, and he will only be here one year, and then we have a no playing time new qb for next year. I hope I am wrong on this.
I highly doubt CJH guaranteed him a starting spot to transfer. That's just not how he operates.

He doesn’t have to do much to be more productive than Nico was last season.

Just dumb. There were no guarantees other than the right to compete in fall camp, which is absolutely the best-case scenario. Competition makes every player better.

Nico woulda been much better off in a real QB competition. Because competition eliminates entitlement.

Why all the negativity ? This will be an open competition for QB1, He isnt going to be handed the reigns. We needed a third quarterback for depth. Aquilar has a lot of starts, lot of experience and we need that. Heck, he has more starts than our kids have on the sidelines. Come on, give the coaches a chance. The best QB who gives us the best chance to win , will be the starter.

An article on the new QB. Didn't read all the posts to see if this had already been put on here. Looks like he has the skills to run Hypes O the way he wants it run so give him chance negas and see what happens. Hype could not just create a star QB willing to drop his team and everything to come to TN like some of you seem to think. Pickings are slim in the portal at this time.

Have to work on his int problem at Appy but Hype can fix him.

With the current landscape of college football, if the two existing QBs are told they have been recruited over, for lack of a better term, they would start looking for another place to be. Both are highly rated enough to at least match what they are getting now at a school they would at least get a chance to start. With Nico gone, you can't possibly think that one or both did not expect to be interim QB1. I hate the current landscape, but it is what it is.

Both fully expected to be behind the starter before NI left. I’m sure CJH told them he would get another QB & all compete for the job. I don’t think GMac family is comfortable him starting this year cause (they preferred he redshirt I heard) there’s like zero chance he’d get thru 12 games not injured. Merk would be silly to transfer now. Even if he’s 2nd team, he’s 1 play away from being a starter in his RS freshman season.

this guy is going to come in and be a seat warmer for a season while Tennessee figures out how to reload for the next year. I'm glad we got a guy quickly but I absolutely hate these one-year players at critical positions. he has no time to learn the full Heupel offense. at least there will be some senior leadership in the locker room for the young QBs.

I doubt he did either, but that's most likely the plan. No way he wants to start the season with 3 backup quality players.

I'm not extremely excited about the kid, but he is scrappy and hopefully the talent around him can elevate his play, but our wr Corp wasn't the best last year. Hopefully Matthews steps up.

How are we figuring there will be a QB competition? We gave him 1.2 mil, I don't see him sitting

Based on what?
the whole situation is just bad. not in any way th fault of Tennessee but this has 2010 Lane Kiffin written all over it. Kiffin went to the west coast into a worse situation for him and Tennessee nosedived into oblivion.
