QB Joey Aguilar commits to UT from portal

Say what you want to believe....If he was their guy they wouldn't have gone after Nico. They didn't take Nico to be the backup. Nico has 2 years under his belt with a playoff team to boot from the SEC. The APP State QB was left out in the cold.
You keep acting like Nico got us into the playoffs. He wasn’t even average in the SEC. He couldn’t read defense or make decisions. Give it up. This guy would have to be awful for us to be any worse at QB next season.

I only watched about half of this video of his ā€œhighlightsā€ against Clemson.
He could not complete a pass over 10/15 yards and almost threw several interceptions.

Does App State have any receivers talented enough to get down the field that far with separation against a playoff team, or even if it does, does it have an O-line that can hold off a playoff team's defense long enough for a route over 15 yards to develop?

Hint: Tennessee has both of those things.

Again...they didn't take Nico to be an backup...But some are saying this APP State QB will start at UT. He left because he knew he had no chance at UCLA. He will be an insurance policy here to Merk and Mac will redshirt.
Aguilar will start in Atlanta vs Syracuse you just can't start a freshman in a neutral field P4 game to start the season, remember Nate Peterman. I'd almost bet big money he's played a lot of games vs P4 teams at App. I think one of them will play 4 games next season and they will get a chance the 2nd game vs ETSU then we have UGA. After that Gmac or Merk may get some play versus UAB. By this time, they will know whether to go with the portal guy or go all out young. Josh passed on the Notre Dame QB so I think he sees something in Aguilar he likes.

He did throw a perfectly touched pass to the end zone to beat Bama, and then came through in Nashville when we down 2 TDs. Those two moments in time absolutely had everything to do with us getting into the playoffs. Make no mistake, I am glad he is gone given the circumstances. He's had bad advisors for sure, but it still doesn't change the details of his play here

Where did I say he got us to the playoffs? He was the starting QB on a playoff team. Anyone knows as a RS freshman he wasn't that good....but the fact is we got to the playoffs. And you think a APP State QB with 24 INTs is going to come in and be the day 1 starter at an SEC program. Give it up yourself.

Just watched Aguilar's game vs Clemson in 2024, and yikes! Risky throws, overthrows, underthrows, INT, not much running... How is this a fit?

24 picks in 2 seasons. SEC DBs will eat him alive.
If he improves as much as he did in the first two years, it will be 43 TD and 6 picks. I can live with that:) Picks can also be wrong route running. I trust our coach!

It doesn’t, and the details are he was mediocre at best. The stats show that. You can’t make up your own stats. You can argue those two games, but another side could argue the losses and the fact that Nico sputtered against any team with a pulse. I don’t know how this ends up, but I just don’t feel like it’s a huge downgrade is all I’m saying. This kid put up some yardage and TDs. He put up to many ints but hard telling how that number changes with a competent team around him. We will find out soon enough.

No starter worth having would have left their team after spring ball, and would we want someone that could? This kid got the short end of the stick. Will laugh my ass off if Heupel is able to pull this off and it would be the stuff that legends are made of

JA: App St 20 at Clemson 66; Line Clemson -13.5
18/41 for 214 yds and 1 TD; QBR 38.7

NI: TN 14 at Ark 19; Line TN -14.5
17/29 for 158 yds and 0 TDs; QBR 36.3

Hilarious, yes, but it's really the only move they could have made. No way they were going to find anything better at this late date. Wonder how the WRs in the portal will perceive this move? Rhetorical. Geez. Can't really wrap my head around this.
Why did they pass on Angeli? Dude seems perfect for Heupel.
