QB Joe Milton and Character Quality

Nobody ever said he was a bad person.
There's nothing to doubt about him. He clearly showed he couldn't play QB at this level. We're all sure of that.
Glad he's a team guy, but please stay in the bench Joe.

And I didn't say anybody called him a bad person. I did pretty much say haters find fault (something to hate) with our own players a bit too often in my view. So it's haters who are bad, not Milton. Beyond that, I didn't write the article, I just it posted it, but you know how fault-finders are. Hate the Woodsman-yeah, baby!

VN also has a lot of bias insufferable people as well. People who don't like to hear facts and always make their opinions based on emotions rather than evidence of the case. People who don't like to hear others tell what exactly happened yet would rather forget what happened and make up their own story.

It is not the statement of facts that indicate an ego problem with his consistent detractors, but their faith in their assessment of the root cause of those actions. Did his going down easily result because of fear or his interpretation of what he should do to avoid turnovers? Did his biggest sin according to many happen when he stepped out of bounds have anything to do with being coached forever to not go down in bounds in short clock situations? Throwing up a jump ball at the sideline is only valid 2 plays a game, at the half and at the end of the game. So, the potentials of the application of ASSumptions are what they are. Odd that those that demand the right to employ them for players and staff get riled when other fans provide their analysis of their and likeminded fans offerings in places like this. Freedom of speech suddenly has limits. On top of that he ran out of bounds once while many on here have harped on it in serial fashion. There is a bit of arrogance with "my assumptions are better than your assumptions." Bet the staff and Milton have run those game situations to ground and established some truths and teaching moments and have moved on. I am not going to assume how he will react in similar game situations going forward and reserve the right to roll my eyes when others do WANT TO EMPLOY THE EINSTEIN OR KRESKIN CARD.

Edited to modify the ending to my post.

You're only as good as your last outing and his last outing showed he was afraid to be hit.

Milton is scared to get tackled, and he runs out of bounds on the last play. Accuracy can be improved,. Being scared can not! Arm strength is great.
Idk if it’s even fear. I think it’s just lack of awareness of what he’s supposed to do. He just lacks sound decision making but hopefully that gets better with time in the system. He has all the physical tools to be awesome.

God help you if you are correct with this as your last outing. If you are not allowing him to another shot at his last outing, how can you expect to get another shot at improving your plus/minus as a Vol fan? Where is the plus in your position? Are we justified to permanently write you off now? Can I just trash your every offering referencing your August 10 post? It is now immortalized. I will continue on with a body of work mindset and his is not yet complete. If he is still standing close to coach first game I will trust he has value to add to this team. I would hate to have to accept all flaws are fatal. Heck Peyton lost his first game of significance in Starkville, I was there sitting among a bunch of rocket scientists that were still sure the Stewart kid from TEXAS was the best long term solution and shared that often on the predecessors to this board and wanted to play the I am only a fan defense down the road, or my favorite "I hope I am wrong" qualifier.

If you’re on this board and expecting no player criticism, you’re in the wrong place. JG was terrible, proved that for many years, and was heckled for it but really the kid should’ve never been in those games. He proved time and time again he was no SEC QB.

Hooker, Milton, Jackson whoever is going to get praise and criticism regardless if they’re playing in game. Now there’s definitely some bs that fans do like the crap with Daniel Lincoln but online criticism comes with the territory and it always has.

Like I said, no problem criticizing bad plays, but to assail a players character or fortitude based on a handful of plays executed badly is another thing. Equating anything any previous player has done as a justification to prognosticate this players future is just garbage. Can anyone justify trashing you or me for other posters transgressions? Coaches coach, players play and fans fan. All are in play for analysis. Plus/minus is what it is for all. My bottom line is fans tend to use too many declarative statements and not enough questions without benefit of the knowledge the coaches and players have of practice and on field issues, then double and triple down.

That speaks volumes about the type of culture Heupel is building.

Hardly a more solemn word has been spoken on VN than this. If you look at championship teams in any sport, there had to be an environment conducive for winning. It starts at the top and trickles down to everyone associated with the program. I am now 110% convinced that Mr. Milton is going to be a factor/leader in our season, whether he is on the field or on the sidelines or in the locker room or on the practice field. Well done young man - proud to call you a Vol

It’s a fan board. What do you expect here?

As far as Milton, he transferred from Michigan bc he wasn’t great in that system. He got to start here, lost the starter position bc he wasn’t great in our system either. Gets back in when Hooker gets hurt and makes more bad plays. There’s just more to be critical of at this point than to be positive about. I’m definitely not saying Milton is a bad kid or anything, he just hasn’t played well in two different systems with two different good offensive staffs.

I have seen no defense or justification for his negative plays, certainly no one suggesting he is going to push a healthy HH. Defending a young man’s character or potential from speculative negative attacks is where our SUNSHINE PUMPERS, as typically defined, are on this issue. The lights have been slow in coming fully on, but does not mean they cannot. We could certainly benefit if that happens and he can utilize his considerable physical gifts. Not going to apologize for taking that position on a guy that seems to really want to be a VFL.

I’m not asking you for an apology. You’re entitled to your opinion and your defense of a players character is commendable.

I honestly think most of this scared of contact or any of that comes from him running out of bounds; I really truly believe that it was a poor decision moreso than him being scared or anything like that. I just think not being the starter then being thrust into the role of trying to win the game is a huge mental task that Milton wasn’t prepared for in that moment. I think ultimately for ppl to get over that he will have to win a game in that clutch situation.

I never said I wasn't allowing him the chance to prove himself. All I'm saying which has been very clear from the start is that until he proves himself he is still the guy who ran out of bounds instead of running people over like he should have. So using basic logic that would mean when he gets inserted in a blow out win in the 2nd half come first game and he shows us all he has improved then my opinion of him will change. If he has to be inserted in a big game because Hendon got injured and Joe Milton still balls out then my opinion of him will change again. So until he plays on the field this season and shows he improved I'm holding out on saying he will be better. It's the EXACT same as saying I'll believe we can beat Florida when I see. I don't know how to make this more simple for you to understand.

Sorry, in your last post you stepped out of fan class bounds and until you put a second mortgage on your house and give SPRYE a HUGE donation to attract a replacement for Milton you are stuck in poster purgatory. Please bring your receipt. This basic logic stuff is fun!
