QB job is Keller Chryst's to lose going into 2nd scrimmage

All this consternation, odds are QB2 will start a couple of games, due to injuries. Any chance if Chryst starts, JG quits team/school, then we're stuck with Shrout or McBride WHEN Chryst goes down?

His arm’s stronger than that...but doesn’t make DB’s fearful of going over the top n
Similar to Rick's season, if we are going with KC at QB, we really do not have a SEC calibar QB. Only bright side is you may not have to have a SEC calibar QB if Pruitt runs a program similar to how Saban does.

Have you actually looked at JGs stat line from last year? He played in 9 games, was 86/139 (61.9%) for 997 yards; 7.2 average per attempt with 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He had a 128.7 PR.

There is no intention of making any assumptions, but let me lay out these stats from another QB's freshman year.

11 games 89/144 (61.8%) for 1141 yards; 7.9 average per attempt with 11 TDs and 6 ints. Slightly better QB rating of 145.2.

Again, not implying the JGs stats weren't that far off from Peyton's freshman year stats.

The big difference IMO is that Peyton was a true freshman. I guess to be fair I would have to also say that Peyton had more talent around him, but there is a huge concern if JG is not mentally prepared to play going into his 3rd year.

Rick was smart with the ball and won some games.
After the UGA game in 05, the book was written. He couldn’t make you pay over the top. Teams just kept everybody in front of them and really tightened their bumps on the LOS without worrying about the runs as much. His wins were before that.

I haven't seen anything to make me believe that McBride is an SEC caliber QB. Even third or fourth string. He's an FCS QB at best. So I would hope that if JG & KC get hurt then we would take the redshirt off Shrout and see what he can do.

John Brice on Basilio somewhat backing up what Larry has said. Said Gurantano has not done anything to take the job. Also added that Chryst has shown a lot of leadership on and off the field since he arrived, very vocal in the huddle, etc. DID say that race is in a dead heat right now, not that he believes Chryst will start.

So I’m just guessing here but ideally, would we be starting to game prep for WV late this week? I understand in the regular season you really only get a week barring the off week but I think I heard it said by Pennington that they want to start the game planning Wednesday. I’m not saying CJP will say anything about it but in a closed practice I’m guessing one of these guys will start taking 75% of the snaps soon.

can't remember exactly, but i think what he said was they've done some various period work on WVU, and other opponents as well, thru out the camp. but that "game prep" will be in full swing during game week.

so tifwiw. he's not going to say one way or the other, but i'm sure the staff has done plenty of legwork on WVU, and others, in coming up with what they'd like to do game plan wise. and a lot of that will be determined by what they have, and will continue to, find out what this team is capable of doing relative to that.

Def need to give one of em an opportunity to build chemistry with the offense.

I really hope to see JG running the offense. The kid is talented. He wasn't utilized right under Butch Jones.
well, if he has taken the reigns and being utilized correctly and improving to the point he can take advantage of that talent, it's the best kept secret in the state of Tennessee.

I don't think the game is slowing down for him. JMO
there's so many varrying opinions on this topic, it's hard to really make heads or tails of what's going on. larry and brice say one thing, price says another, simonton and hubbs say something else....and on and on it goes.

if either qb is knocking it out of the partk, it's a very well kept secret.

Other than Swain, who is Saying that JG is ahead of KC?

someone did last week, i think it may have been Price.....maybe Hubbs to, can't really remember. but there's a couple guys that cover the teamt hat beleive it's JG. and a couple that believe it's KC.

not sure anyone knows for sure one way or the other.

yep it does. it is a tad worriesome that the only things you do hear are that it's' bad.......i'll admit that much lol.

There are varying levels of that. Some think he leads. I think Swain and maybe a couple of others believe it is JG's job. A couple of others lean toward KC... but I don't think that any "reporter" has said it is KC's job. Just this "Vol Colonel" and then LWSVol. So if you put more credence in guys like Swain then you should probably lean toward believing JG will be the starter.

My doubts about them is that I haven't heard clear justifications or claims that specific (even if unnamed) people have said specific things. More like "I'm hearing" JG has improved... to me ambiguous. I am more impressed with " a source" told me. I know that might seem too picky to some... but I think nuances are often significant in things like this.

Me thinks some of these reporters are fanboys and have their own favorites. Just as the majority of fans do.
