QB for 08?

I have heard a lot from Kville and the word on the street is that Coleman is the man for the job and will probably take the job from Crompton

That "word on the street" is most likely people like you and me just being typical fans. Coleman is going to be awesome IMO, but Crompton will be excellent, too.

Crompton is the only one with any experience, was the highest recruited player out of high school, and has been in UT's system the longest (assuming a new OC doesn't change it all). Unless he becomes a bust, I have little doubt he will be the starter. Coleman and Stephens will have their turn when he graduates, just like Crompton waited his turn for Ainge to graduate.

That said, I like what I hear about Stephens arm, and Fulmer will have a competion for the starting postion. IMO Crompton will win the starting job.

I like Crompton he looked pretty good in the games he played in. I think with more snaps he only gets better. I trust that the best man will get the job.

that's the real thing here....we're going to have a new qb, some young WR's coming on, so the reps they likely got for the bowl game, in to spring and summer will be huge.

what i hope doesn't happen is that this competition lingers and lingers so you don't have that chemistry building process between qb and wr thru the off season.

and i think we learned our lesson with that in 05. unless something dramatic happens, i expect them to decide on a qb fairly early on.

I agree Jake. Get it over with and get the chemistry thing going, say Coleman or Crompton and Paige, kind of like Brady and Moss.. :)

I just don't see that happening. I know we don't even have any idea who's going to coach this offense, but I don't see starting QB as an issue. That's Jon's job. Now who wins the #2, that's an entirely different battle...

I like the Jones idea as a change (call it the "smokey formation").

I'm a little scared of Crompton. I've heard Cut did'nt think much of Crompton. I'm not in Knoxville, but what do the Coaches think of Stephens?

He's big, Great arm and mobility!

It's one of those 3 since they are not recruiting a QB for 08

He is the least mobile of the three, by far.

I would like to see who will take the bull by the horns this off season. Who will get the w/rs and start working routes together? Whoever it is, needs to start showing leadership right away.

i agree, i just hope the decision process isn't a process that stretches the length of spring ball.....

For the future, how about a cross between Peyton and Martin?
I suspect BJ is going to wind up fitting that description. In a couple of years.

If it does stretch out, Jon's not the talent I think he is. I really like the guy and have a good feeling about him. It's odd to say, but he reminds me of Andy...

That said, BJ is going to be a hell of a leader for us one day...

I thought Stephens was more Mobile? Maybe I got bad info!?

Not to sound like a nit, but why don't you rely on yourself? Watch Crompton's games at UT (how could you miss them?), then watch and read about Coleman at Rivals, then watch and read about Stephens.

Stephens, barring injury or suspensions, won't take a meaningful snap at Tennessee. He's got a rocket, but doesn't have the mental stuff yet. Coleman DOES. So, 2008 and 2009 are Crompton and 2010 and 2011 are Coleman.

I'm new to this site!

Who do YOU think should be the QB in 2008?

Coleman
Crompton
Stephens

UT needs a mobile QB...not a Pat White that can't throw, but one that can move in the pocket and has the ability to make plays with his feet!

BTW...the last mobile QB we had ( won a NC )

FWIW Pat White can throw. He's a former baseball player that has a cannon. The WVU offense is a running spread that doesn't require him throwing much.

maybe 'Wild Thing's' horn rims would help him some.

I am not sure about the qb situation. It seems like all have strengths, but also have problems. Another thing that I am afraid of is if we do a 2 quarterback system:banghead2:. Also does anybody think that the loser of the job, if its crompton, coleman, or stephens, will transfer?

Thanks for all the info..........I heard Stephens was mobile? I guess not! I saw BJ play in high school and had alot of talent in the BEST division in TN football (D2 Class2)

Get the ball to Jones and Moore and things should be pretty darn good!

Just because he's not as mobile as the other two doesn't mean he's not mobile. He IS mobile, he's just behind two very very very mobile QBs.

The masses should finally be happy with a mobile QB coming into the starting role at UT.:clapping:
