On CFB Live they were discussing out QB situation and mentioned that Chaney told them that a decision on the starting QB could be announced in about a week and as early as after Saturday's scrimmage.

Thoughts?

Next week seems like a logical time to announce. Gives the starter two weeks to prepare accordingly for that role.

I bet it will be Crompton. I will say this about Stephens however. I was watching the video on UTsports from yesterdays practice and the boy can flat throw the long ball. The coaches have to take that into consideration. If he is managing the offense as well as Crompton, it might be closer than we think. It still seems like Crompton is getting most of the first team reps, so I my guess is, he will be the starter.

I am hoping that Crompton takes this last chance to shine and runs with it and gains the volnations support. I thought Stephens played best in last years jacked up offense. Either way I think CLK has installed a toughness to this years team and the offense will be QB friendly!

Crompton will not gain the support of most Vol fans until he quits digging trenches in the field with 50% of the passes that he throws.

He has a chance if he'll stay away from the microphone.

It should be Crompton...the only reason he looked bad last year is because under center he knew half his team didn't know what the hell they were doing. You try getting under center and staring across at SEC linebackers...the only thing I would've done different is throw it higher in the stands, lower on the ground, or right at Clawson's face. I watched CSS yesterday and they replayed the LSU game from 2 years ago when Ainge got hurt early. (By the way LSU won the National Championship that year) Crompton had them beat until a last minute drive by Jamarcus Russell. He'll thrive in CLK's Pro-style offense! GO VOLS!!!

A last minute drive that Russell fumbled and the officials totally blow the call. Crompton should have won that game!

I think Fla won that year...

If Crompton has another good scrimmage on Saturday, I have no reason to think he won't be the starter.

they did, teblows frosh year. and we had uf beat and the ref called that BS call roughin the qb on leaks pick. makes me sick. :furious3:

UF had a TD called back on a punt return on a questionable holding call, so it evened out.

And we still could have won if we could have stopped a Tebow run on 4th down (there was no reason why we couldn't or shouldn't have since Tebow did nothing but run the ball when he was in the game that year).

When Crompton jogs out onto the field for the first UT huddle against UCLA the stadium needs to chant "CROMPTON, CROMPTON".

Got your years mixed up....FL won that year in 2006 & LSU won the next year in 2007 after beating UT in SECCG

Granted, Crompton looked really bad last year; however, you have to consider that he's under a totally new offensive scheme this year. We are so used to seeing Crompton screwing up on the field that we all tend have a negative opinion about him. This is a new offense which will hopefully showcase a new Crompton. Couple this with the fact that he has the experience factor over Stephens, Crompton will definitely be the starter.

Crompton will get the nod. Remember he practices well, but gets the deer in the headlights when it's game time. I don't know how long he'll be in there, against WKU, but I'm sure Stephens will get some reps in to. As for UCLA, If he plays like he did last year against UCLA again this year, CLK will pull him quick. Fulmer can't save him this year. It don't matter who it is, I just want someone to step up and take charge.

Not going to happen IMO. CLK has no plan to platoon QBs. We, of all fan bases, should know by now how disastrous it can be to do that.

The entire offense struggled last year! Didnt Crompton complete a higher percentage of his bounce passes than Nick Stephens did?
