So I looked up stats. Rick Clausen played two seasons for UT, the same as JG thus far. Clausen's stats are first, followed by JG's:
total yards passing: 2390 to 2765
14 TDS to 15 TDS
11 INTS to 4
58.5 COMP to 63.2
6.95 YPA to 7.66
12 sacks to 47
It should be noted that Clausen's weaker year was his second one, and that was 2005, which was the worst season in over two decades (5-7). So he was not playing with a world-beater squad that year.
47 sacks in two years = not a good QB.
I dont love or hate any of them, dont know them, but that doesnt matter. I reply to let you know that despite what your ego wants to believe, no you are not smarter than the coaches, and its laughable for you to continue to act as so.Then why bother to reply to it. We all know you love JG and the coaches. Well one may already be gone
What choice does he have? What other way can he do it?
At this point, not many. I guess he could go fishing for linemen in JUCO, but that has its risks as well. If that is his mindset to relinquish year 1 and 2 as a wash, then year 3 becomes make or break, neither he nor Fulmer will survive if his gamble doesn't pan out.
This isn't complicated. Interceptions stop a drive; Clausen had seven more of those over two seasons than JG. Sacks, unless you have Brady at quarterback, stop drives; JG had 35 more of those over two seasons than Clausen did. If you can't understand the fact that JG killed 28 more drives in two seasons than Clausen did, I can't help you.I'm sorry chief, but didn't you say Rick Clausen was night and day better than JG before going on to post their stats where JG was better in every category except being sacked?
You'd have been better off not posting the stats and hoping nobody looked it up.

He is the better qb and played well for most of the season. He got killed all year but tonight you could see that he was finally starting to shy away from hits and throwing off his back foot every time. With the line we had I don’t think it’s fair to put much blame on him. If the whole team had his heart we would have won more.

This has been mentioned once or twice on here - perhaps you have seen it - JG doesn't know how to read defenses and holds the ball too long, which leads to an excessive number of sacks. Does it seem random to you that a lot of posters on here have noted as much? Matt Ryan was sacked thirty-one times his senior year at Boston College but he also threw for 2,700 more yards and 20 more TDs than what JG did this year. It's not sustainable, and he hasn't gotten better at avoiding it.This isn't complicated, you're making it complicated. Sacks aren't always on the quarterback. Granted, sometimes they are, but they aren't always. You're reaching big time with those stats.
Also, post your source for times a quarterback got sacked. I'm genuinely interested in that.
IMO being stubborn about keeping JG at the helm was the biggest mistake all season. I realize that it's easy to blame the QB but he's clearly not capable of generating sufficient offense for Tn to be competitive consistently. Allowing Chryst to get more reps and gel with this offense earlier in the season would I believe made the difference in a few games like South Carolina and possibly Vandy. JG got tons of grace from throwing up a few 50 50 balls successfully. The guy is really is not very dynamic and has NO RUNNING ABILITY. Itll be extremely discouraging to see him at the top of the depth chart next season. Thoughts on the chances are that Pruitt moves to start a freshman next seaon?

You might want to point that stupid finger back at yourself. If dozens of other people on here have all said the same thing about JG's ability or lack thereof to handle the mental aspect of the position, and you can't see it, especially considering the other QB that saw playing time for us this year didn't get sacked at remotely the same rate, either you might be related to JG or maybe you just don't understand the game of football very well.Do you know how many times he knew there was a blitz coming with someone who SHOULD have picked it up and didn't? Do you know what the play calls have been on the plays he's been sacked? Ty Helton likely just lost his job, how do you know they didn't have plays that specifically targeted someone?
I think a group of people on the internet saying he doesn't know how to read defenses is probably not a reliable source. But hey, if that's who you want to believe, then go ahead. Everyone has a right to be stupid, this is America.

The problem was he almost NEVER knew they were coming!!Do you know how many times he knew there was a blitz coming with someone who SHOULD have picked it up and didn't? Per completion dont know off hand but per attempt is over 8, which is in fact among the best in UT history. Sorry that your bias prevented you from seeing him for the efficient qb that he is.
He was striking alright...........striking outIt's entirely too easy to make a statement like, "JG holds onto the ball too long" without knowing everything. And yes, there have been folks saying that, but once an opinion becomes popular, it gets repeated whether it's right or not. I don't go off of what others say, I think for myself. If JG had a competent offensive line, he wouldn't be sacked near as much either. And when Chryst saw playing time, he was playing in garbage time, save the Missouri game, when he wasn't sacked as much, but instead of standing in there to make throws, he was either throwing incomplete passes or interceptions. JG hung in there and delivered strikes just before getting blasted all year long. Think about the Auburn game. If he doesn't stand in there and get trucked, and instead gets rid of it fast, then Tennessee doesn't win that game. The offensive line has been unbelievably bad.
But that's ok. You enjoy the warmth of that blanket of like minded feelings.
