Putting a face with a screen name

sigh...I cannot lie.

That's not me, but I've done it. Just didn't think to have someone take a pic, and back then most photos on subs were strictly verboten.

Somewhere out there on the internet, there's a picture of the USS Billfish (SSN 676) pulling into Rota, Spain in September of 1992 with the DSRV Avalon on deck after what was supposed to be a very highly classified op. I'm in the crowd of 5 or 6 up on the bridge trying to keep that stupid Spanish harbor pilot from slamming us into the pier at Rota.

I've seen it. If I trip over it again, I'll post it here. If I could find a more recent pic of me that didn't look like "Walter", I would post it...lol.
What other boats did you serve on?

During the late '80 to early '81 time frame. 627 was in Newport News, so they sent me there to qualify. If it helps, we were still wearing the red "C" hats when I was there. My QMC was Lafferty.

Nope. I was a dependent. And it was after your time there

Hot-running boat when I was there. Subron 8. My only 688 class experience. They built an absolutely gorgeous engineering plant, then bolted bunks and torpedo tubes onto the front...lol.

Fast, quiet, and lethal in the open ocean.

Edit: My son was on a 688i out of Pearl. From what little he could tell me, the 3rd flight '88's were a generation better than the originals.
