Do yourself a favor and delete this post before anybody else reads it. Better to remain silent and have people think.....

If you want to see some real data, as opposeto scratching your backside, that shows how football compares economically to basketball across the country, see:

» Which Football and Basketball Programs Produce the Largest Profits?

UT football makes around $40 million in profit for the university. UT basketball does not even make the attached list.

Now, that doesn't mean we shouldn't field a strong team, but don't spout off about "out earning" when yo don't know what you are talkng about.

im afraid to like this b/c he may think people have seen his post and not delete it....

I have said this for the last two hires. But it won't happen. We will not pay a whole lot for a basketball coach. That is our history. In his interview last year, Hart even said that football must get "right" before anything else. I may be wrong but would be shocked if we paid more than $2 million for a coach.

The UT football team has not been bowling and has earned little bowl money if any. The UT basketball program has won at a higher percentage than the football team, has more winning seasons than the football team, and has earned more post-season money from the NCAA Tourney than the football program has earned over the past several years. Thats how.
You do know going to bowls actually cost schools money, and the revenue made from the bowls is split between all 14 sec schools

The bottom line is that all of the fans who signed the petition should encourage Dave Hart to pay whatever it takes to attract a top name like Marshall, Smart, Hoiberg, etc.., even if the salary is more than Butch Jones's salary.

It is time to get over "the football coach has to earn more than the basketball coach" train of thought. Florida does not screw around in paying Billy Donovan, why should we screw around in paying our next hire.

If the petition signers can't behind this, then they need to shut their pie holes, because their actions and words mean nothing and are nothing but hypocrisy.

Sorry but in the sec if the head basketball coach is making more than the football coach your football program is screwed. See Kentucky

Why do people continue to believe that going to a bowl game results in big money?
Research just how many school loose money. There are numerous facts other than the final score. Get real, get informed.

It is now put up or shut up time. We will see how devoted Dave GHart and many of our fans are in being a major basketball power.

There are some big name and very good coaches, that could be had….if the money is right.

UT will have spend big $$$ to get one of the top coaches who could take Tennessee basketball to prominence in the college basketball world. Is UT willing to spend the money to get that kind of coach?

Is UT willing to pay it's new basketball coach more than it pays Butch Jones, it's football coach? It is going to take that in order to get a top coach and it is worth it if you want a top basketball program going to the sweet sixteen and higher most years.

Let's see how badly our fans and the UTAD want to be a great basketball program. Who they hire will say a lot about how basketball is really looked upon in the UTAD office.

Hire a mid-major up and comer, we know that the UTAD is not serious about our pram being a top program.

It amazes me the way you dorks try to blame Hart, rotflmao!!! And he11 no UT won't pay a bb coach more than the fb coach, forget it !! Why don't you start a petition or something!!!!!!

Jones is the 25th ranked coach in the country and 7th in the SEC in terms of pay at $3.2 mil per year.
I'd say that's pretty substantial. I think it shows considerable investment in the HC position for TN football...
All but about 5 coaches in front of BJ have been to at least one BCS bowl...

Salaries & Contracts

being 7th in the SEC in anything means were mediocre

We got punked by a 37 year old coach with 3 years coaching experience because Dave Hart thought that he could low ball the kid and save money.

How committed to basketball is Tennessee?

Then the petition signers should shut their pie holes if they can't support it.

What in the world are you talking about? Do you really think that petition-signers have any influence on who Hart hires?

I, for one, will back the coach and the team. If they don't perform up to expectations, I'll voice my concern.

Every new coach deserves to be supported until they prove they can't get the job done. Now the AD on the other hand, this hire fails they need to clean house over there and do some restructuring with decrease his involvement. I don't think it's a coincidence that his arrival lines up with the decline of our athletics program.

I'm ambivalent toward Dave Hart, but I think you need to review your timeline.

If you think our decline started with Hart's arrival, then welcome to the board Jimmy Hyams.
