Purple Vandy chant

Yep. That long, hate-filled history with NW just spilled out. Couldn't be helped.

All of the NW fans I met were gracious and complimentary of UT. People can chant what they want but I thought it was a little unwarranted...and kind of a lame joke. We rehearse insulting others on this board every day and the best we can come up with is "Purple Vandy"?

And the best they came up with was an outdated and ignorant comment about inbreds. Is there a single insult that you can't arbitrarily say "that's the best you got?"

With that being said, I didn't hear the chant nor did I state purple vandy. but I did thank Obama for every sack and turnover

Just kidding. I didn't hear any of the tired old inbred insults. I think the only insult in that category that would be more lazy is the "Well...well..you'll be working for me one day!"

(BTW, correct response for the players is "only if you own an NFL team")

Like I said, all of the purple fans i came in contact with were really nice. I understand that doesn't necessarily hold true for everyone. I just see far more witty jabs than that here. Game respect game.

NU has a classy and good coach who is not using them as a stepping stone, and the coach before Fitz was pretty good too (RIP Coach Walker).

I would much rather have stock in NU football than Vandy football.

All I ask is that you stop acting butthurt when guys like Spurrier, Fowler, Striker, etc. taunt us. If we dish it out, we need to do a better job of taking.

You don't know me at all! When have I acted butthurt over those goofballs or anyone else? You can't lump me in with other UT fans anymore than I can do the same to you. I don't give a stink what any of those folks or anyone else says about UT. Gee, I realize you don't like the Purple Vandy chant, but don't lump me in with anyone else. And I won't lump the other people who don't like the Purple Vandy chant in with you.

Dude he threw his helmet in the air and ran around the stadium flicking off fans. That isn't close to "purple Vandy" chants

Both were lame. The biggest difference between us and Eric Striker is our ages. Most of us are a lot older than Striker but our behavior is evidence of a comparable maturity level.

We're all lumped together as "The Volnation" -- the fanbase who dishes it out, but can't take it.

It's the only comeback.

This. Also fans and players have different attitude expectations. The real problem isn't fan vs player. But rather fan vs fan. Northwestern fans went on and on about illiterate this, sister fornicator that from the beginning. They went on and on mocking the Tennessee program up until the day of the game. It wasn't just the fans but their beat writers as well.

These are insults that included our players as well. Lets not act like these northwestern fans sat on their hands and got attacked by low class folks. Did we fire back? Of course we did.

Look, the finger pointing, "he said she said" thing doesn't really work. If you truly don't believe some select lovely volnation regulars rustle feathers to illicit a lot of these oh so disrespectful comments about us Tennessee people then you're drinking some strong stuff. I've seen quite a few online vol trolls assault opposing team forums practically sh**ing on their program every second they can.

Sooooo, why not be the bigger man and ignore the return fire and provide a positive example of our fan base. You know.....so people may believe there are some civilized, normally procreated, not to mention literate humans in our fan base.

Besides, the off chance that every one of our fans were cordial and welcoming with open arms, nice words, and a bottle of 300 year old scotch before we were gravely insulted, then I'm pretty sure I was in Tampa watching the team talk for itself. All you gotta do is enjoy the view.

Call me crazy but throwing your helmet in the air and running around the end zone giving the bird to fans is A LOT worse than "Purple Vandy" chants. "Purple Vandy" chants are funny. Throwing your helmet in the air and flicking off fans is not

As is typical, the difference between funny and not funny is defined by who's hurling the barbs and who's receiving them.

Throwing your helmet in the air and flicking off fans is borderline assault. You can hurt people throwing a helmet. I don't physically hurt people when I chant "Purple Vandy"

lol ok. Personally I wasn't in on the twitter war or purple vandy. Ain't nobody got time for that. But I won't condemn the ones that did when attacked themselves.

Not that big of a deal really. Funny because of VN inside joke but I doubt it caused a ripple anywhere else.

If they want to call us "orange Purdue" or equivalent if they beat us in a future bowl game, I'll laugh (even if it doesn't really make sense). It's a funny joke whether it's a real thing or not.

Northwestern is like my third favorite team and I still think "Purple Vandy" is more or less hilarious.
