Purdue coach throwing shade at Hooker?

Just guessing here, as there are many much more informed coaches on the board but I see Purdue playing soft shell coverage to try and keep action in front of them and negate big offensive plays by UT offense.

What say you VolNation Coaching Wizards?

Its pick your poison. If you play soft on the outside we will throw the ball laterally down the LOS and see if our guys can beat you one on one in the open field. USCe and Missouri tried that and got killed on 12-20 yard chunk plays. Of course it depends on your personnel, but I think a better strategy is to play tight man coverage on the outside with safety help in the middle of the field and make Hooker throw the ball in the "window" before help arrives. Our WR's are good enough to get seperation and if you can hit them in stride before the safety gets over its a 70 yard TD. It takes more time for the play to develop and its a much harder throw to make especially if you can pressure the QB. But I would go tight man coverage and bring alot of stunts and blitzs and hope Hooker doesn't make the right reads consistently and get the ball to the right guy on time and mt pressure gets home for some sacks and alot of 3rd and longs. My preference would be for this Purdue coaches thoughts on our passing game to be moot and we just rush it down their throats for 350 yards and 6 TDs.

Coach, We run a play about every 30 seconds. There's a stat for you. I'd advise you to work on getting your secondary lined up correctly. Oh yeah, I hope they're in shape.

Assuming his stats are correct, then I don't think he intended this as a slam. He probably should have tried to be more tactful in the way he said it, but I don't think you can fault him for trying to answer the reporter's question honestly.

Having said that, if it motivates HH and our receivers to play harder then we should all thank him for it.

Purdue’s only hope it’s to gamble and send pressure every down. If they expect a run send run blitz pressure. Their DBs need to jump routes going for the turnover. Dropping back into coverage is what we want them to do.

That’s perfectly fine. Tom Brady has made a decent living off of being really good at short distance throws.

I think we’re reading a little too much into this. As a defensive coach you have to figure out what the opposing offense doesn’t do well or in our case doesn’t do as well. A QB is generally going to be less accurate at throws over 20 yards. Didn’t see anything wrong with what he said honestly

Coming from a Purdouchebag secondary coach I doubt many people care. Coach English should concentrate on his career and getting out of the pathetic b10 and second rate purdouche

I didn't see it as a slight.
Pretty sounded to me like he was saying TN is a fast moving team that will hit you with a lot of short stuff and then take you deep and that his guys can't get fooled and will to play disciplined in order to hang in there

They don’t have any black bears or revenuers to run from up there in Indiana. All of them boys is corn-fed up there: good linemen, no skill players. GBO.
The Big Ten sucks. Always has. Always will. And they almost always have slow white LBs, RBs, WRs and DBs

Then I see our WR's doing what they've pretty much done all year, breaking tackles/making people miss/creating chunk plays.

Eh, they’re consistently the second-best conference. They forget how to play football when they see Orange; other SEC teams are not as consistent against the B1G.

I expect to see them in nickel almost the whole game with cover 3 over the top trying to keep everything in front of them and to try and slow our offense down. If they decide to play man and rush the QB, we will have an easy time winning this game and Hooker will see just how many more than 4 of 10 he can complete.

Coaches should probably just stick to Heupel’s approach and describe what the other team does well. Any deficiencies have to be inferred from what he doesn’t mention.

They're sheep for slaughter. What do you expect from someone who's team is gonna be walking the green mile tomorrow?
