Is it just me, or is anyone else sick of Tennessee almost ALWAYS punting on 4th and 1?

(We will go for it sometimes on 4th when it doesn't matter--too far behind, etc)

I think that if you can't get 1 yd on a play you shouldn't be on the field.

My 13yr old said "WHAT ARE WE DOING??!!!" He doesn't even play football, just learns from being at the UT games.

Why can we not come up with something that would get us one freakin yard in a seriously needed situation??

As a lover of a strong run game, nothing makes me sadder than the inability to just line up and get a yard when needed. Our line play is weak.

the guy that decides to go for 4th and 1 regularly behind this offensive line / blocking scheme is destined to have his hat handed to him in an ugly fashion regularly.

I'm aware that we have been in that boat for a while now, but we have won some games that silliness of that nature would have lost for us.

I think it shows that phil has NO confidence in his Offense.
Maybe him showing confidence in them would be the spark they need to jump start the whole thing.

It is sad when Colquitt is sent running on the field right after the 3rd down snap.

We were playing a good conservative game to that point and it was working.

Punting on that 4th and 1 actually worked in our favor if you don't remember, just the way it was planned.

We should actually be more upset that we abandoned the conservative game plan that was working and opted to kick a field goal outside of Lincoln's range on the next drive.

That's when the game was lost.

We don't have the O-line to 'go for it' on 1st and goal from the 5.

How obvious was it that with our offense the real challenge would be to stay in field goal range after 3 plays?

While I'm at it, the only surprise to me from our offense against Bama was that they stayed on the field after getting a first down in the second quarter--which defies everything we know from Pavlov's experiments (e.g. it should be a conditioned response for them to exit the field after 3 plays).

Finally, in a way Clawson has fooled everyone with his genius. Before the season started, he often talked about how he'd get the ball in the hands of the best playmakers-- who knew he meant the punter? That muffed punt had to be our longest play from scrimmage. Utter genius...

However, in Clawson's defense, it's really hard to tell just how bare the cupboard really is. Is it Clawson or is it a lack of talent?

Lol some of you act like this is new......We have never gone for 4th and 1 plays...

That's another thing that pisses me off about Fulmer or whoever is to put the blame on.

You see all of these other school's throwing a trick play in the game once in a while....when is the last time you've seen TN fake a punt, field goal, let the HB lob one out?

I wouldn't mind seeing this from time to time, and if were not back on our own like 20-30 yard line, then go for the 4th and 1 from time to time.

No the game was lost when we got the muffed punt on there 5 yard line and got a false start, incomplete, and a sack, and only ended up scoring 3 points out of it.

Didn't Arian Foster throw a pass against Mississippi State?

Fulmer's *yes Fulmer's* offense is unwatchable.....at least we're not seeing the bubble screen as much this year....

Going for it on 4th down is typically going to be an awful idea for us. We're awful in short yardage and can't sustain drives, so giving up 40 yards of field position is an absolute killer for us.

2005, 1995, and 2008 respectively if my memory serves me right. Not too sure about the fake FG one, but that is the last time I remember one.

Yeah, with the point being it doesn't happen as often as it probably should. :)
