Pump the Brakes on Larry Scott

Butch is gambling with house money and either way he gets paid.. If next year goes bad and he gets fired, he gets paid well. If it goes well, he gets extended and gets paid well..

But in this case the house burns!
Yea!
So glad he is inflexible

Who hit the gas on it?
Hubbs, I guess:
Brent Hubbs has been on the radio all the way to work this morning he says the following:

1) Helfrich is not a very realistic option at this point.

2) Larry Scott is the leading candidate in house.

3) The downside to "in house" is that the Vols lost Nick Sheridan the de facto QB coach and needs a QB coach. Can they hire both an OC and a QB coach or do they need it as a package. If they want one guy, Scott is not it.

4) Rock Gullickson from the NFL/Rams will be hired this week as SC coach. Good hire.

Per Hubbs

Butch Jones is in Knoxville and was in his office today and was there as late as an hour ago.

On the OC front, nothing new in terms of names right now. I think based on Butch's comments last night (in our story) and in talking to people today, Larry Scott remains very much a candidate for the job.

I'm not saying that anything is a done deal at all. But he is a real candidate.

Now, let me throw another quarterback name out there. I think it's the biggest hire Jones is going to make.

Chris Weinke is a name that could be a one to watch. Weinke was at IMG Academy and has been with the Los Angeles Rams. Obviously, Weinke and Gullickson know each other.

Weinke has worked with alot of high school qb's through the years and college guys as well. I don't think that Weinke has interviewed with Jones, but I do believe he is a name to add to the watch list.

Need an OC with QB experience. Period.

Promote Scott and hire Peyton, Lawrence flips, a top '17 kid flips. Peyton doesn't worry about being ridiculed for calling plays. He would be the only coach who could do the work of a 60 hour coach in 30 hours, half is recruiting. They would line up to commit to PM. They would call Butch just to ask for Peyton.

If it is Azzani and he fails Butch should be fired. That is not a gamble to take at this time.

If this hire fails, Jones should be fired regardless. By failure, I mean anything less than 8 regular season wins next fall with NO blow outs.

Is there any evidence anywhere of any kind that Manning wants to be a college coach for UT or anyone else?

If Chris Weinke comes in , it will be terrible. Jeff Goff has played some terrible football. And Chris was obviously his teacher while Jeff was on bench.

I would HATE to see that scenario.

Probably because Goff isn't that talented and is pretty dumb mentally.

which scares me more as Azzani has not even shined as a WR coach (I honestly would like to replace him as a position coach)

Where Azzani has shined has been with the athletes he's signed since he's been on staff. He is too strong of a recruiter to let go.

Heupel has done a wonderful job bring Mizzou's offense from dead last to top 6 in SEC. And he did it with an OL that is worse than several High Schools.

Does people really have to use the color bllllue?

On a serious note tho, remember the name Dorsey. I have heard if they promote within they will try to hire him as a QB coach,

Weinke has worked with a lot more QBs than goff. Goff as #1 pick was stupid. He wasn't ready and didn't matter who was coaching him. Blaine Gabbert 2.0

I would do just about anything to make this happen! Hey, Anything is Possible.
