Tennessee hosted highly coveted pass rusher
Chaz Coleman on Monday. The Ohio native was on his second visit after seeing LSU and liked what he saw in Knoxville.
“I really like the scheme,” Coleman said of what he found at Tennessee. “I really liked the city. It is a nice city. A lot of good food out here. I really liked the coaches, and I am comfortable out here.”
Coleman wasn’t sure he was going to visit but a familiar face convinced him to come give Tennessee a look.
“I really didn’t know anything about Tennessee until my guy Xavier (Gilliam) told me that it was really nice out here,” Coleman said of this. “So after that, I decided to take a visit.”
Not only was Gilliam here for a visit but so is a bunch of his former coaches from Penn State like
Andrew Jackson,
Jim Knowles and
Anthony Poindexter. The familiar faces and familiarity with the defense are big selling points.
“It definitely helped me because I knew I would be able to be comfortable,” Coleman said of seeing plenty of familiar faces on the visit. “I knew I would be comfortable because I was already comfortable at Penn State, so I knew I would be comfortable.
“Me being able to know the system, I would be able to help the team even more because if they have any questions, they can come to me and ask, and I can help them get to an understanding of how the scheme works.”
Jackson is someone who he likes very much having worked with him last season.
“Coach AJ is like a mastermind,” Coleman said of Andrew Jackson, the new Tennessee LEOs coach. “He can take something hard and break it down to be simple and easy. Then, Coach G, I like him because he has a lot of experience and knows what he is talking about.”
So where does things go from here? He is headed to Ohio State for a visit with the Buckeyes and who knows what else.
“I want to make a decision probably by the weekend, but I might setup another visit depending upon how I am feeling,” Coleman said of this.
As for this visit, he firmly believes that Rocky Top showed well.
“They definitely helped themselves a lot,” Coleman said on if Tennessee improved their chances. “Just by me being comfortable and knowing the coaches and the scheme more.”
