Psn

If the ps3 gets hot the fan will kick on which is loud. From what you wrote, it just sounds like the blu ray player.

I've had the YLOD a couple of times and if it's working then that's not the issue. If the ps3 turns off and beeps three times that means it's overheated. If you try to turn it on (watch the color indicators) and turns off while quickly flashing a yellow light followed by flashing red light that's the yellow light of doom or YLOD.

Alright thanks I appreciate it..the weird thing is is that after the ps3 got real loud, I put the DVD in my xbox and it did the same thing. Then a few minutes later I tried the ps3 again and it worked fine. Haven't had any problems out of it today so hopefully it was just a one time thing and won't happen again.

Hey guys I have a question. I've only had my ps3 for about a month. I put a p90x DVD in lastnight and the second I did, the console started running extremely loud and was almost to a point it was shaking. I waited about ten minutes tried it again and it worked fine. This ever happened to anybody else? Was it just the fan cooling it down?

If you had it just a month it's probably the fan. If it were ylod it would more than likely shut off unexpectedly a few times before it died. To be safe you might wanna backup any data you may wanna keep on a flash drive. BTW don't attempt to fix it yourself if it's only a month old. It's under factory warranty for a year. Send it in & they'll either fix it or send you a new one back.

It's not really death. If so my machine has been resurrected twice. It's actually not hard to fix - if you have the tools. The place here locally will do it for $50 and give you a 90 day warranty.

it all depends on how hot the machine actually gets. the motherboard in mine was fried. that = a new motherboard or for lack of a better word, death.

you know i am just messin' with you rocky top.

just like govols said, def back up your game files. i wish i had been doing that. even if you have to send it to sony, they will under no circumstances send the same console back. they were very clear to me about that when i was deciding what to do.

Out of curiosity, what are the tools? Torx bits?

The only specialty tools would be some sodder, soldering iron, heat sink compound, and some patience. The actual screws are all phillips I believe.

It makes life even more easier if you have a reflowing board laying around...cause that's essentially what you are doing (reflowing the cracked sodder). They use(d) cheap parts and this is one of the effects it has. Also, to be RoHS compliant they stopped using lead based sodder which handled much higher temperatures.

Yeah, i have an old fat boy, figure it's a matter of time.

It's all good homie. The local shop said they could pretty much fix any issue experienced by a ps3 user. Obviously if you run into a bad hard drive or something your going to lose data -if it's not backed up - but everthing else is repairable. That's one of the perks of not sending it to Sony...when you send it to them there's a huge chance you are not getting your machine/hard drive back. Plus, it takes them 4-6 weeks to do what my local guy can do in the same day I drop it off.

It is only a matter of time. Eventually it will happen to everyone. The repair guy said most of the repairs they do are on the first generation fatboys that can play PS2 games. I'm not sure why...
