Psn

Yep.

Because Sony completely abandoning the PS3 for a year or two while they finish up a new console and forcing all their one console customers to buy a 360 is really gonna win a lot of them over for the next system.

I know you said it was a joke, but anyone that feels that Sony should just forget about the PS3 at this point is very thick skulled.

I haven't played on PSN in probably 6 months, but it had to go down right when I got portal 2. Thank god it comes with PC access through Steam.

I may not be buying a PS4. Hopefully I'll be able to afford both systems next generation, but I'm at the point where I'm hesitant to buy a 360 this late in the game and risk not getting my money's worth (I do not ever want a Kinect).

didn't say that they should absolutely forget about the ps3, just that this was probably the final nail in the coffin for the system in terms of sales vs. other consoles. they definitely aren't going to catch up now after this.

They hadnt been catching up anyway according to NPD data over the last year. Didnt matter anyway really, no one was going to catch nintendo...........ever

why would i trade? i'll just buy yet another 360 if this is not resolved by this coming w/e.

Everytime I see Mania post with that avatar, I can't help but think that Charlie Sheen has switched to 360 and is winning because of it.

Saying that they had no firewall is not true at all.

According to a report I read they had apache web with no firewall. I'm sure they had a firewall buy even your basic PC user knows if you run outdated software you don't run long.

They had firewall, while not very effective, they did have firewall protection.

It will be at 10 hopefully by the weekend

Lol I picked a cheap 360 up last Christmas and hooked it up at my dad's for me and the nephews to enjoy over holidays. Might have to go "borrow" it for a while.

Emphasis on "not very effective" for sure. Of course with hacking now a days it's sometimes social hacking where they tap an employee and so it doesn't matter. We had some Russians get on our network at work via one user who was being careless. They almost managed to make an online business account transfer. Luckily they caught it before it occurred but we had antiquated security measures like Sony that made it easier. We run calyptix now which i don't fully understand but I know they monitor and log everything on the network.

Here's where the initial firewall comment originated:

Expert says Sony knew of PSN security weakness | Massively
--------------------
The PlayStation Network outage plot thickens. In today's hearing by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Sony executive vice president Kaz Hirai refused to testify. One who did testify, however, was US Public Policy Council of the Association for Computing Machinery head Gene Spafford, and did he ever have some words for Sony.

During his testimony, Spafford claimed that Sony was well aware of the security holes in the PlayStation Network, asserting that PSN was using old software that was "unpatched and had no firewall installed." He also noted that these security issues were brought to the table in a Sony-moderated forum, but no action was taken as a result.
