Below are our win percentages versus the rest of CFB in different timeframes from today.

All Time -10th
Last 100 - 8th
1926-1975 (50 Years) - #1
Last 75 - 8th
Last 50 - 14th
Last 25 years - 14th
Last 20 - 19th
Last 15 - 36th
Last 10 -59th
Last 5 - 75th!
5 years before Butch - 85th!!!!!!
Last 3 - 58th (tied with Florida)
Last 2 - 43rd
Last year - 30th

Very interesting to break it down this way.

Amazing what Butch has done taking over a program that was literally one of the worst power 5 teams in the country (recent record wise) and get the trend turned around so quick. If we go 10-2 this year and miss out on Atlanta make sure to remind your fellow Vols where Butch brought us from and to not get their panties in a wad too quick. We deserve to expect Atlanta this year because this team is certainly capable but also remember to be patient. Fulmer certainly didn't take us to Atlanta the first year he had a team good enough to do it and it took Majors 8 years or so to win the SEC.

These averages hopefully will significantly improve the next 5 years!

Go Vols and Go Butch.

man, we fell pretty damn far there for a bit. took us a long time to recover as well (most of which was self imposed by bad hires).

Now it's finally turning around

I can remember how awesome it was to be on Tennessee's campus in the late 1960's as a teenager knowing that I was walking on college football hallowed ground and what elation I felt in Tempe thirty years later. It never crossed my mind that Tennessee would not always be among the elite.

And then I remember how disconsolate I felt after the 2012 Troy game where the Vols won the game in name only and did not outgain Troy despite the Vols gaining over 700-yards themselves. My gosh, I felt like being Hacksaw Reyndolds. To be followed by the Missouri game where we came away with the clear message that the coach has no confidence in the team and I will stop there.

I drove back to Nashville from those games thinking that the Vols were not only irrelevant in college football but sliding into a group of also rans that never will arise above mediocrity. It was like someone who had been a big part of my life for all my life had died. Eighty-fifth in win percentage over five years and it didn't even feel that good.

While the rise out of the ashes could have been better in some games along the way, it has been meteoric nevertheless. It is in Vols history to expect to be near or at the top in terms of winning percentage.

To Atlanta and beyond! This is one year where I want to end the season in the same stadium as the year before.

Has the University of Tennessee learned a very painful lesson, concerning the hiring of a football coach?

I don't think so. Kiffin was a discount coach with no history of winning big. Dooley was a discount coach from a small program with no history of winning big. Butch was a discount coach from a smaller program with no history of winning big. The only hire I've seen us make that wasn't a discount was Shoop and I believe that our defense will carry the team this year.

Butch started recruiting here by saying "put Tn back on the Map", now he can say "Finish".

The sun is coming up Orange more and more.

Jump higher Vols.

Kiffin was not a discount coach. We paid that staff a ton.

On the other hand, Doug Dickey was an assistant coach for Frank Broyles (Arkansas) with no prior experience as a head coach when he was hired by Tennessee in 1964. Tennessee would finish seventh nationally in both polls in Dickey's second season at the helm.

lets talk players for a minute how many games do you think Saben would have won with just medicore players instead of all 4 and 5 star players any one can win with those kinds of players but then look at the coach at Boise State for years he had top ten team with medicore players so I ask you do you think winning is from the players or coach.

His 2nd year at Bama he had them in position to play for a NC. There was talent on that team but nothing like he has stockpiled now.

Pure Speculation and invalid asumption! I've been a big fan all thru the Major, Fulmer and then the down years, and in those years paid the price in bar tabs and jeers in many a riverside sportsbar, following a loss. Only just retired this year and have time to post and engage, in the past by the time I got to read the forum, issue was said and done, so I just read. But now retirement means I can starting to enjoy time to enjoy being a vol fan. I'm not firing off tired one liners or trolling just to gain posts or likes. So why throw the dart? Maybe by the stats IYO? I ain't one of your stats. Give me break.

Saban beat Fulmer like a rented mule in 07 even with 2 OL starters out. Give Saban our team in 13 and he wins 8 games. Saban is a proven elite coach, Butch hopes the clock runs out against OU and UF

I believe our defense will be significantly better, but our offense won't need to be carried, they will put up a lot of points.

There will always be games like OU where we can't pick up the blitz or AR where we can't run in the wet conditions or Bama where a defense is just better than us. In those games our D will have to carry us. I don't think our pass game will be able to win us many games where we get a couple scores behind

The decline didn't start after Fulmer it had already begun. You must be forgetting facts in your old age.

Saban goes at least 7-5 with our team in 2013. Last year he would've won the natty and been working on a repeat this year. We don't let all of those leads go with him at the helm. I'm just praying Butch will suck up his pride and learn from his mistakes. This team is too talented to not be in Atlanta.

He would've at least been in the playoff last year. At worst Saban goes 11-3 with last year's team.

Butch is afraid of mistakes and it's hurting the team. He needs to put the chart down and ignore the analytics and just coach. And if he gets a 2 score lead this year and takes his foot off the gas I'm going to be livid. It's time Butch learns how to coach in big games and how to step on a team's throat

Of course you are correct, (probably on both counts), the slide started during Fulmers tenure, I was just rattling off low long I've followed. As per my old age and memory loss, unfortunately some of the heartbreakers we gave up in the last ten years are branded in my brain, wish Icould forget some of them. But regardless, I am All in for Tenn. Win, lose or draw, my lot is with the Vols. GBO! Now help me find my walker and cane and lets go whup up some Gator hash, finally. This is the year!
