Just curious on whether anyone believes buying a PS3 is worth the $300. I currently have a 360 and all of my friends play Live. But I'm intrigued by the PS3 and have always been curious to try it out. I've heard graphics are superior to the Xbox and there are a lot of good games I'm wanting to try out on it along with the ability to play Blu Ray. There is a bundle at Target that is selling the PS3 with Uncharted 3 for $300. Just not sure if the price is worth it, with having to buy separate games for it. Anyone have both, I know it's not uncommon to own both gaming consoles.

I have both, so...

The Blu Ray is a nice perk, but only if you don't already own a Blu Ray player.

PS3 has some decent exclusives, like Demon Souls, God of War III, GT series, Heavy Rain, Infamous series, Killzone series, Little BigPlanets, Uncharteds, some Metal Gear games, to name a few. "The Last of Us" is an upcoming exclusive that's getting a lot of hype, but we'll see.

For playing online, its not worth it. Live simply has it trumped all the way around.

As far as graphics? From my experience on multi-console games (FFXIII, CoD, ME, BF, Elder Scrolls), PS3 has slightly better graphics. That's usually up to the developer tho. Supposedly 360 has the better graphics hardware, but I've yet to see it, and their videos (for cut scenes) are crappy compared to PS3 games cause of Bink compression.

Basically just depends on two things: if you need the Blu Ray player and you like PS3 exclusives. Otherwise you're not missing out on anything if you have 360 aside from prettier cut scenes.

I own a ps3 and love it. I spent $250 on my system about a year ago, they should have dropped in price since.

Oops also forgot to mention PS3 has the added perk of being able to play your old PS1 games (if you still have any). They won't run PS2 games tho (except for the older models that they don't make anymore). They're starting to make PS2 classics for PS3 tho that you can buy off the PSN store. You can also buy old PS1 games off the store too (they just added FF6 aka FF3).

There's nothing wrong with ps3 online. I have an Xbox but it's mainly for kinect to play with the family & friends. Never joined live. The ps3 dashboard is superior to Xbox IMO. Xbox is like a souped up wii.

So is there anyway to play any of the GTA series on there? Mainly Vice City.

I used to have the PS2 and loved it. It was a reliable console. I switched to Xbox 4 years ago and just never looked back. Interested in getting back into the PS market.

Not unless you get one of the original models. And they are very expensive (have to buy off ebay or some ****).

Or until they decide to make Vice City a PS2 classic, or they do an HD version for PS3 (they did something similar with God of War PS2 games, and are doing the same with FFX).

I really wanna try Uncharted 3, God Of War 3, and Gran Turismo. I'd probably buy Battlefield 3 for it. Don't own it on Xbox. I also work at Target and have the redcard, so 15% extra off would save a lot of money. I think the console only is $199 for 160gb. It was $299 with Uncharted 3, PS Move, and 320gb.

So why exactly don't PS2 games work? Seems strange. Is it the lack of support that the PS2 games dont have?

Uncharted series is arguably the best console exclusive series out there. Always a contender for GOTY

It was harder and more expensive to do the PS2 hardware and later software emulations. So it upped the price of PS3 considerably, which in turn hurt sales. They figured it was just cheaper to not include backwards compatability, and just sell PS2 systems dirt cheap.

I dont play mine that often, but it is a great system. I mainly got mine to play The Show, but I have also had a great time playing God of War 3. If you have some extra spending cash I would say go for it. Also the biggest thing we have used ours for is for Netflix in the living room.

Graphics are only better on PS3 exclusives. On multiplatform titles, their will be no discernible difference.

I don't have any problems online with my PS3, and the PS3 is a more powerful system too. There's a reason why there is more PS3 exclusive games then there are 360 exclusive games.

I'm not sure about there being more, or even better exclusives for the PS3 than Xbox, but there are some outstanding ones. Since I don't own an Xbox, I can't compare them.

Gears of War was the only one I gave a damn about and the game hasn't been worth that $300 price since the 1st one. (Not saying I don't love my 360, but that's the only exclusive I cared about.) And I'm not much of a Halo fan so that exclusive hasn't bothered me since when I got it and Halo 3.

I use my PS3 for media streaming as well. I ripped my movie collection to one of my computer hard drives and stream it to my TV via the PS3. The lack of loud annoying fan noise makes the PS3 much more effective in this. I love my Xbox, but it is loud, between the fans and the drive when it spins up, it is just distracting at times. The PS3 i can barely hear.

I have both, prefer PS3. Decently better list of exclusives, all of which named in this thread. The Show, Gran Turismo (really apples and oranges to Forza once you get down to the nuts and bolts of it), Uncharted, God of War, etc. Plus PSN is totally free, and

BEST OF ALL!

YOU CAN GET NFL SUNDAY TICKET WITHOUT HAVING DIRECTV

Yessssssss

I'm guessing you have an older xbox? The new ones are quiet, and plus you can install games on the harddrive which also can make it quieter

Just to clear some things up

1) unless you buy an older "fat boy" PS3, you dont get the "backward compatablity" in the newer slim models
2) the graphics are not THAT superior to the Xbox. Youll be hard pressed to see any differance in the graphics. Your TV is far more important graphically than the console in a head to head comparision.
3) The Xbox ui is much more sleek and refined than that of the PS3.
4) Online gaming is a draw I would say. The online experiance isnt THAT much better on the Xbox.

The short answer to your question is no. Its not worth getting a PS3 just to try out a few exclusives. You'll get bored and head back to the Xbox pretty quick.
