I like them both, but prefer the 360.Thr only problem with that is I've returned 4 (up to this point) for red rings.

The weird part is the first one tht got abused lasted over a year, but 2 others only lasted a few days,or few weeks. The ofrth one is still doing fine, but we don't play it much.I'm hoping they redesign the case SOON!

the new Jasper core 360's are excellent. They use less power, they run cooler and quieter and are better built.

the PS3's only real advantage is BluRay.

the blueray and enhanced dvd just by themselves make it worth buying a ps3. the gaming forum has about 100000000 threads on this though. if you are a loser and need to play games 4 hours a night with 14 year old strangers perhaps the xbox is best for you.

honestly, i've had a 360 for a good year and a half now and have had no problems with it. compared to the ps3, the game library is much better and xbox live is worth the money you pay for. that being said, it depends on what you're looking for. if you're looking for blueray, free online play(albeit probably not as good as live but still enjoyable nonetheless), and a more dependable system.....go ps3. if you want a better selection of titles and more out of your online play take a risk and get a 360......the later models have been alot more reliable.

I'm bumping this because I have a question. I bought my PS3 like 2 months after they hit the shelf and I loved it, I'll never go back to Xbox. But, after 2 years it crapped, that little light of death.

Here's the question. A local game shop says they can send it off to be repaired for $85, sounds good to me. Has Sony upgraded anything since its release, is there any reason to buy a new unit, if not, I'm thinking of sending this one in for repair.

A little drawn out, but I'd appreciate the knowledge.

LOL, nope. Your luck is just fine. 360's are garbage.

Get a PS3, Blu ray makes it even more lucrative.

I replaced 360 once and have had one working for a year. I think the problem they had is fixed. I do not here as much about it. If you like to play games with others 360 no way you get a PS3. If you like to play with yourself you get a PS3. The bluray on PS3 btw is not the good stuff you can get a better blu ray if you get separately.

Same here. Got it a year and a half ago, after the main wave of bad ones, and haven't had a single problem. If you keep it upright on a level surface and don't crowd a bunch of crap immediately around it which prevents it from cooling down, you should be fine with one since the improvements they've made.

I personally have never played online, I just use the Xbox Live to download game demos and things like that, so I can't speak to the online gameplay, but I definitely think that the game library for 360 is much better. Simply because after Sony made the PS3 so expensive, a lot of people couldn't or didn't want to spend that kind of money on a game system when they could get another one in the same generation for that much cheaper. The game developers know this, and so, if they're going to put out a game for just one system, they're going to go for one that the most people have.

I now own both, the PS3 is a better built/more sophisticated machine. I got an "jasper" Xbox for fathers day, because lots of my friends have an Xbox and I wanted to play online with them. I'm starting to dig the 360 controller more than the PS controller I must say.

i've had my first 360 2 1/2 years and have never had a single problem with it. i did buy a refurb that crapped out within a few weeks but that is now the one i use to play my back up copies upstairs. i've had the ps3 for about 4 -5 months now and it's a great system but the couple of times i tried to play online, it was garbage. the lag was so bad, even hard wired, that i couldn't stand it. most of my gaming time is on the 360. here is a little other tid-bit of info one might find interesting.

something that is always getting left out of these arguements are facts. let's look at a couple. keep in mind too that i'm only talking about multi-platform games because exclusive titles can be tailored to fit the system in what ever way they're needed.

the ps3 uses a Cell processor that runs at 3.2 ghz, the same speed as the xbox xenos processor. the xenos uses 3 cores to run the games and the OS while the Cell uses only one core to run both. the xbox comes with 512 mb of ram compared to only 256 mb on the ps3 dedicated to gaming. the xbox has 1mb of cache memory while the ps3 only has 512kb of cache space. so far no huge differences but then comes the frame rate. the xbox can process 500 million polygons per second compared to the ps3 and it's 275 million polygons per second. polygons are the triangles used to make images in games and as a reference point, a car in a racing game such as need for speed which puts emphasis on the looks of it's cars, uses a minimum of 10,000 polygons per car and up to over 20,000 per car, so the more detail to a game, the more polygons. this translates out to roughly 60 frames per second on the xbox compared to 30 fps on the ps3. this is one reason most reviewers of the systems give the xbox the lead in graphics and how smooth the game plays. i don't have the stats on the wii so i can't compare it. when you turn to power usage, the wii is much better. for a system left on ALL the time, the ps3 will run you about $134 a year, if you bought it after 2007 but will run you up to $160 a year if you have the older model. the xbox will run you $104 a year, after 2007 model, and $143 if older. the wii will only cost you about $10 a year if left on all the time, which is better than the xbox and ps3 even turned off which rates out at $10 and $11 respectively. hopefully some stats will help with this debate, but i seriously doubt it.

I also read an article back around the time when the two systems came out that basically said the 360's processor design was more intuitive for programmers. It stated that since the 360 was built around multiple core processing technology, the game designers would be more likely to get the full potential out of that machine.

I prefer the 360 overall and I have two PS3's sitting collecting dust due to not using them at all. I really depends on who you ask, and as you can tell from the responses in this thread some people love the PS3 and some love the 360. By the way, dont let the RROD scare you, it is easily fixable and you can fix it for about a total of 10.00 and about 45 minutes of your time. As far as I know, there is no inexpensive method to getting your PS3 fixed when it gets the fail lights.

It is essentially taking the case off, removing the heatsink from the top of the GPU, wiping the old thermal paste off and applying some new thermal paste, putting the heatsink back on, and putting the case back together. But I am sure you can find detailed instructions somewhere online.
