My PS3 got the YLOD a couple of weeks ago and it is a main board failure. Does anyone know how I can retrieve the game data off the hard drive? I put it in my laptop, but it will not read it since its not formatted for that. From all I have seen on the interwebs, the HD can only be read by the PS3 that it came out of. I was hoping someone here may know of another way to pull that info off somehow.

I know, I should have backed everything up with a flash drive and I know i am gonna get flamed by the usual 360 suspects (and Mania). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

don't know if this will help. i got the red screen of death on my first ps3 and customer service told me that the would look at it ( for 80 bucks ) if i shipped it to them. they also said that it would take a month and there was no guarantee that they could fix the problem. i didn't think it was worth it just to recover my saved files on the hard drive. good luck to you

yeah they just send refurbs back now. if you send it to sony, its an automatic loss of info. they also want $180 now. i will just buy a new one before i send it to them.

It caught the herpes from your 360. That sucks.

What model PS3? How long have you had it? Just curious if mine may do this as well. I have the 80gb version that came with MGS3...I got it just under 2 years ago...

it is the 80gb version. i have had it for about 4 years or so. you need to back up your files monthly for sure.

And what files are you referring too? Like all my game data and saves? What about old ps1 or 2 games I downloaded from the ps store? Can I back those up?

all you need to back up is your game data. jsut copy to a flash drive. the downloaded games can be downloaded like 4 or 5 different times.

My ps3 got the ylod a couple wks ago & no there is no way to get ur data. I learned my lesson & got a flash drive this time to back my stuff up this time. Also that hdd is connected somehow to the system it was in so if u put it in a different 1 it will automatically have to be reformatted. Any downloads u paid for u will be able to re-download free of charge.
