At least Microsoft has a warranty for when their machine messes up. Sorry to hear that BTW Smokey.

This means no Bluray movies and/or The Show for awhile. I might go buy a laser cleaner just to see if that helps. :crossfingers:

I know someone that has some spare parts for PS3s. I may be able to get you one for nothing. I will find out and let you know.

No luck. A friend of mine had a PS3 that his daughter knocked off a shelf and screwed up one of the ports on the back. He bought a slim and was trying to give0 it away last week. Talked to him today and he had already given it to a guy he worked with.

The luck of having the same lens would have been hard anyway. Come to find out several of the old ones like mine had different lens in them. Thanks though.

My luck don't seem to be changing... I got shipped a bad lens. Lets see how the replacement process goes.

My old lens would attempt to read true PS3 disc. All games I inserted and Netflix, but everything else (Music CDs, Bluray movies, Data disc, etc) would not read at all. The new lens I received would not even attempt to spin on any disc.

However I can say I know the ins and outs of this drive though. After opening it you need to realign the loading gears so that disc will completely load. I found that out the hard way, but after seeing the guts of it I think a tray drive is much less opt to failure. PS3 style drives has too many possible ways that I could fail IMO.

Well so far so good. I did get a response just asking me to trying cleaning the lens before taking the next step of exchanging. Unfortunately cleaning it didn't work as I assumed.
