Don't laugh. I am not at gamer at all, but did buy a PS2 a couple years ago. I haven't played it much really, but went out and bought NCAA 09 to get ready for the UT-VT bowl matchup.

I get home, pop in the game, and nothing. Black screen. What gives?

I bought it brand new. It worked the last time I played it (probably in the Spring). It has sat in my entertainment center since then. Hasn't been dropped or otherwise damaged.

The disc whirls around inside, but the game will not start at all.

I blew air into the vents to get the dust out. I cleaned the lens. It still does nothing.

Any suggestions for the Old PS2?

i would check all connections and try another game to make sure it was not the disc.

does anything pop up at all when you start up the console? or is it just the game?

i know it might sound obvious, but be sure and check that the AV cables are hooked up properly.

bury it in the backyard, play taps and salute it, and go buy a Xbox 360 for 199.99

I have taken all suggestions here -- except the one about burying it in the backyard -- and none have worked.

I have tried several different games and even a dvd. Nothing. It is black screen. I can hear the game whirling around inside and when I pop the lid, the game is spinning.

I have checked all the cords and wires and they all seem fine. I have even tried the system on different tvs to make sure that wasn't the problem.

I took the thing apart to see if it was clogged up with dust. It seemed really clean. All the parts seemed to move correctly and without much hindrance.

Not sure. It isn't that big of a deal because I never play it. However, like I said, I was wanting to play a few rounds of UT - VT before the bowl game. Oh well.

Did some research and the person said it might be a blown fuse. Just google PS2 black screen and 321098205 pages will pop up.

Well, I borrowed my nephew's PS2 console yesterday and the game plays fine. I used my cables and plug in cord and game.

It is obviously something with the console itself. I am not too worried about it though because I hardly ever play it.

I googled the problem and tried the reasonable solutions but nothing has worked yet.

Thanks for the help so far.
