I think his knowledge of the conference is his biggest strength.
After his stints at Georgia and Bama, he knows the type of athletes needed to beat them.
He obviously doesn’t have them right now.
And to get them, he will occasionally have to beat them on the recruiting field to be able to eventually beat them on the football field.
The question is, can he do this soon enough to satisfy his competitive personality or will he come to the conclusion that it can’t be done at UT any longer at the highest level.

He has the experience and eye to spot players that can be “coached up”. Taylor and Thompson give me that hope.

It’s why a rebuild like this could take 4 to 5 years. He has to find the 18 year old guy that plays tough and smart. He had to then develop that guy with S&C and experience.

Imagine a team with Pruitt’s mentality made up heavily of 4 and 5 year guys (thanks to the new redshirt rule). That kind of team can have a great deal of success, but the time between now and then will suck.

He’s going to have to develop lesser players to get UT back. Once UT hits 10 wins, the they should have no problem going head to head.
The number of wins is not the measuring stick. Player attitude, willingness to work harder than the opponents, take "lumps" and learn from them. Things like this will cause the corner to be turned. Pruitt will go after gamers. It will be up to them to buy into his salesmanship.

Remember in his hiring press conference, he said a defense and team people are scared to play. You see glimpses of it with our D this year, they are starting to fly to the ball, and play as a team with personal responsibilities that should allow for big plays when the matchups work and the one guy needed to make the play actually does.

We need good players who buy in and listen and a team that is tight and holds each other responsible on and off the field. When we get those great players that buy in with the good ones, it should be fun to watch.

I think us fans pick the fly s*** out of the pepper...it's what we do. I really think Pruitt focused on coaching and developing and improvement in skill and the mentality he wants. He knows the recruits he wants, and is signing a good bit of them. The difference b/t Pruitt and CBJ, is that though CBJ signed some pretty good classes, he signed them to his finesse model, which, over time, doesn't translate in the SEC. Pruitt recruiting and coaching to be hard nosed power team...which is what it takes to succeed in SEC. For example, Les Miles wasn't the smartest coach out there, but he coached towards a tough D and running game, which was enough in most years to get him 9-10 wins...that's the baseline that Pruitt going for, in my opinion. To be honest, I'd like to see a few more indications that top level QB, RB, WR's are coming on board than we're seeing, but obviously, this year is all about filling the trenches on both sides...and think we're doing pretty well there.

Recruiting from UT's current status will be an incremental process. This coming class will (IMHO) be mostly 3 stars and a few 4's. I would be ecstatic with one 5 star. They might not be the stellar class we all want, but they will be CJP's type of player/person. With a little more success in the 2019 season, we will see a step up in players who seriously consider us. And then we keep improving - improved play equals improved recruits.
Yes, there will be those recruits who salivate over the play time opportunities. But your 5-stars are not going to be found there.
I hope this happens quickly, but we not only need to bring in elite athletes, we also need to start back filling for depth. Be patient. We have no choice. If the 2019 season shows real improvement, the process will pick up steam.

Wanya Morris is a 5 star iirc...but I get your overall point. GBO

I think its a given that a team filled with 4-5 years of Pruitts recruits is going to be competing for a Game of 6 spot - provided we can get the offense rocking. I have little doubt at all that given time, UT's Defense will be a thing of agony and woe for opposing teams - an orange wall. Gotta make sure we are doing the same on Offense. That first requires CJP to get some big uglies up front.

rebuilding is a conundrum...need to win to recruit better...need to recruit better to win...tough position

GO VOLS...BEAT CATS!
Step one is to get the program back to the point where we expect to beat UK, Vandy, SC, Mizzou. There's no reason why we can't recruit well enough to do that. When we reach the point where we consistently beat those teams, then we can worry about our big 3 rivals.

Bama needs to be out schemed and out coached plus possibly kick 6 or some type of luck to beat them it’s hard to out recruit them all tho Kirby has made a case for himself to expect pruitt to start landing 7 or 8 5 stars is insane atm at least imo

OU and Clemson have the right idea out very good recruiting and great coaching along with an offense people wanna watch kids wanna play in

Oklahoma still has to find their Venables tho which isn’t easy
