Not sure if this has been said.. but I like to find out the connections of why people are hired, etc..

My biggest fear is that Pruitt doesn't have enough solid connections with Offensive minded people. He's jumped around too many times.

Helton was the QB coach throughout 4 years when Friend was the OL (2007-2010). Also during this time, Neil Callaway was their Head Coach and Kim Helton (father of Helton) was the OC. After Callaway got fired Tyson stayed on but moved from QB to RB coach. Who was the OC/QB coach that took his place? Jeff Brohm. Who was the Head Coach? Garrick McGee who's now an "offensive analyst" for MIzzou... Tyson took a brief stint Cincy but Re-United with Brohm as OC at Western Kentucky. Neil Callaway ALSO joined them as OL coach.

Regarding Callaway, he was the OL Coach with Tyson 4 straight years but combined all years working together it has been 9 years. Guess who might be looking for another job? You guessed it.

Will Friend and Tyson only worked together during the UAB times and didn't re-unite until now. Their Offensive philosophies may have definitely changed. Will friend took an immediate SEC route while Helton took the non-power house to west coast path.

Pruitt only worked with Will Friend for 1 year at Georgia but I still believed he asked him to be OC first. After Georgia, he was the OC at CSU and did well for awhile.

Now back to my thread title. If Pruitt makes a change in the offense, does he stick with Tyson and add Calaway? Or does he kick out Tyson and promote Friend to OC/OL? I actually hope none of them and brings in a brand new OC who's never met but has a solid track record.

I think Pruitt is fed up with Helton, this quote from Saturday night is telling

Pruitt: When they have more guys in there than we can block, we don't need to be running it in there. Which we did a lot.

Reading those comments and watching their sideline interactions leads me to believe Helton isn’t here long term. I just hope we nail the OC hire if Helton is out.

I think it's fairly simple, this Mizzou game has left a bad taste in everyones mouth, beat Vandy and win a bowl game and we go into the off-season with some great momentum, pull in a great class and things are really trending up for 2019, if you ask me.

We need staff continuity right now. And lots of new linemen.

I would agree with this. No one blames Pruitt when the defense has a bad showing (well, I'm sure some do). He is a good D coach and working with what he has. I think Helton is a good OC and working with what he has. We see that the offense at USC took a hit this year. It could be because Helton left or Darnold, or a combination. Our offense has shown flickers this year and improvement. Granted, it isn't where any of us want it to be. But I think and hope that trend will continue as the team moves forward.

Or it was a bad audible by the supposedly superior qb?

That's how I took it. Pruitt strikes me as an old-school type, the son of a coach from an era when the coaches made the decisions and the players did what the coaches said. He has said repeatedly that the coaches are doing a good job, but the players just aren't. If he had a problem with one of his coaches, I don't think he would address it in the media.

Possibly but this has been an issue all year, so if it's on the QB's then why not run a check with me offense?
This was in fact a different qb. He has praised JG in the past for checking into or out of certain runs based on the defense, he has also praised JG'S decision making routinely. So why now would he be talking about the OC? To me and anyone not on the KC bandwagon, he is simply saying the qb should have changed the play since the box was loaded.

I understand it was a different QB however Pruitt has made a few comments about JG checking into the correct plays. I'm not knocking either QB but given this is their first year in the system wouldn't it benefit them to be in a check with me offense? Especially given our shortcomings on the OL. I don't think Helton returns next year, again that's just my opinion.

I guess we are just going to forget about Chris Weinke.... you know because he never actually played QB in the NFL or anything.... I’m sure him and Tyson talk all the time. Don’t forget Joe Osovet who is considered an offensive genius.....

Tyson is a good offensive coordinator. The game plans aren’t just built by one individual. Everyone gets together to create game plans.

He does need a better OC than Helton and a better line coach than Friend. Too much pay for too little result. You can base it on SEC results or a cherry pick games. I can't believe they watched Missouri film and that was their best game plan.

I'm shocked! We made it almost an entire first season before putting our new coach on the semi-hot seat (at least with vn). That's so Tennessee. If I remember correctly, it was said before the year making a bowl game would be a huge accomplishment for this team. We have one more game left and maybe we'll just pull it off. The prognosticators were right. We just need to give this staff a couple more years to see what kind of progress they can make.
