Reading a lot of negativity towards this hire and I think it’s mostly fatigue but who can blame anyone, never seen a search like this but might have fell into a good situation.

I’m going to give you a few reasons to be excited. First and foremost, recruiting. He’s good at it, very good especially in the South. His main areas he has hit in the past should ring music to many ears. He has had a stronghold in middle Tn all the way back to Rico McGraw. He’s not afraid to get his hands dirty but most good ones aren’t. South Alabama, Florida and Atl have been good spots for him, not sure his way of recruiting will resonate for northern or western kids, but hire staff that knows those areas. On that subject, couple nuggets.

Who will he hire? One name I’m hearing that is possible is Rush Probst, the legendary HS coach. I do mean legendary (even in his own mind). Don’t worry about his HS label as he was hired at Alabama before Pruitt before his lifestyle was made public. I’ll let you look up his mistakes but he can flat out coach and recruit. If that didn’t happen, Pruitt wouldn’t be here today. If named, I would be surprised if JJ Peterson didn’t commit and come with him. Probst would have inroads in recruiting in S Ga and the entire state of Bama especially Hoover, his former school. JJ can follow him as he will be on the field coach.

Another coach, Kevin Sherrer, is a rising STAR and would be great at DC, was DC at South Alabama, did well but good coach and recruiter. If hired, watch out for Adam Anderson, they are tight.

OC, saw Freeze name come up, doubt that happens, for obvious reasons. Chip Lindsey is possible as they have ties but keep in mind Dan Enos. Either would be a good hire and Pruitt would stay out of their way.

Only Bama name I think that is possible is Derrick Ansley, same mold, good recruiter and coach.

All the above are friends and buddies. He needs to counter with some differing views on staff, and I’ll tell you why.

Some of his buddies he has had other schools hire haven’t worked out. Two for instance that he and Sherrer talked Richt into, Sale (OL) and Hocke (S&C) may have been the worst hires possible. Sale is in the abyss now, needs to be selling insurance somewhere and Hocke was a gym teacher in Atl after getting fired, A&M hired him and you saw he got them playing even worse. Stay away from Hocke. Some of his buddies should just stay buddies.

On his coaching skills, he will be fine as coach. He has never done anything but DC but his X and O’s are fine. He will have to learn on the job his first year or two like everyone has to, expect a couple growing pains. He’s not a Beliechek but no one is, his strength is recruiting. Speaking of, he is known for one big flip each year, he will get one this year too.

All the above is good reason to be happy with the hire, here is the caveat. It’s good that Fulmer or someone with weight is in a place of power. He does things his way and it isn’t always the right or proper way. Fulmer will need to have a leash on him. I hope boosters weren’t expecting him to like them, be buddy with them, or tolerate them. Saw him smile and shake hands with a prominent booster and get a pic, guy wasn’t even 30 yards away yet and he said that’s got to be the dumbest SOB lol. He had some choice words about boosters or “men that like to swing their ****” just bc he has money. Pruitt is a redneck to the inth degree and a vulgar one. Ask him about McGarity but make sure no kids are within 100 yards. He doesn’t get along with those in power and has caused issues on all three staffs. That said, he gets to bring his guys and if Fulmer will just keep tabs on him, should be fine.

Plenty of reason to be excited bc no more cliches and Tn should return to being a tough, disciplined football team that is physical, the way it should be. It is Tennessee after all.

I feel disappointment

I know it's going to be another let down

I expect many nasty words while dealing with the new-coach slurpers

Art Briles might be on the radar for OC.

He's a great OC and is also a great recruiter so if Pruitt hires him it will be cause for a double BOOOM!

VFL...GBO!!!

Respectfully, Wylo, you don’t know anything. I don’t either. No one does.

I do know this, though. This was Fulmer’s decision. Gonna trust him.

Just now reading all the news but not seeing a lot of negativity yet personally which is good. I like this hire and all Vols should back it unless we want the media to bash us even more.

Much better than Butch, Schiano, and the myraid of other names that have been thrown around. Hopefully he'll be the next great thing at UT. Everyone needs to support him and maybe paint the rock a few times welcoming him and any recruits he can bring in.

I hope it doesn't mean I should be rooting for Bama in the playoffs though.... Maybe I'll just root for their defense...

I don't get it....Gruden is gone....time to move on...
CFP did what is best for the program. He will not fail.
The most we can do is to sit back and wait....
The Staff is the key....
CJP seems as though he has the Character and Leadership skill set to pull us out of this mess.
Every coach we have hired under ADs since Hamilton have been somewhat been failures with the exception of Barnes.
Next on the list CHW we have let her hang around.
We have a new AD. Let him do his job and see if he can pull together the entire Vol Family.
Damn I miss Doug Dickey, Bob Woodruff, and Andy Holt. Plus a few old timers that were Boosters. Col Tom Elam.

CJP is not a flashy hire, but he is the real deal...The Staff will be what we need...

Who gets retained from this staff?

We desperately need Trench play and domination....

Remember Defense wins NC...

We hit a home run just going to take time to get settled in and understand it...

GREAT hire! If PF and everyone else at UT can stay in there lane and let this man run this football program the way he wants too. We will get this thing rolling quick!

Blah blah blah up and comer this, rising star that. Tennessee didn't need an up and comer rising star hire at this crucial point. The future of our program hangs in the balance...and now thanks to Dooley and Butch, who you all loved, we lose 2-3 more years waiting to see if Prudence can put out the dumpster fire. All the while our opponents open the gap and we fall further and further behind. But be excited...at least we have a coach.

I think Pruitt has a lot of upside, but that's just it - it's potential and nothing more. I'm exhausted from all of this and relieved we've got a coach but here we are again hitching our wagons to potential rather than results. Now we've also got an incoming coach who won't be with the program until sometime in January and that doesn't sit right with me either.

Oh well, as I said, I'm exhausted from this and I'm ready to move on. I'll get behind Pruitt, but we can't be complacent and just accept any and every little thing that isn't right for this program.

I can't wait to hear the excuses about why Pruitt's recruiting class isn't that great...it will be the fans' fault though, I guarantee that. It is VERY easy to recruit to Bama or Fla St

Right on, Tall Guy.

Battered and beaten Vols, along with CPF, have successfully reprogrammed this fanbase into thinking the hiring of a gump, who won't even be here until after the playoffs, is a great thing.

We WERE much better than this. Those days are obviously looooong gone.

how i feel: like we did let the better choices go... i'm not too confident, but i hope really hope we start winning again..in shock that we let butch jones go for a man with 0 head coaching experience

know: nothing of his hc skills but he's been on championship teams before.

expect: solid recruiting and a better defense

All being said, I hope "P" hires someone to "teach" QB's, be it OC or some other named coach. A thought, his exposure to QB's has been "caretaker" mentality. Hope there is a little more flare in his mind.

I was listening to sports radio in Atlanta this morning. They were only talking about the bulldogs and their recruiting. At the end of the segment they asked which of the new coaches concerned them the most. He said Pruitt and only Pruitt without hesitation. Saying that he expected Pruitt to recruit Georgia much harder than the previous coaches. Mentioned the possibility of having Propst on his staff. I was encouraged.
