Maybe he can help by avoiding the mistakes of his first 2 years by coaching a full season this time.
That's Right!!!

Don't let 'em get to you, McDad. I think most fans see the same things you have seen and would agree with the point you are trying to make. We all want the same thing. Some of us just aren't pep squad material.

So giving a HC credit where and when it is clearly due equates to pep squad mayerial?

The subject of the thread isn't about giving or not giving credit to the HC. It's about Pruitt saying fans need to raise our expectations. I don't think it's being negative to point out that he hasn't exactly lived up to our current expectations yet. It's just a statement of fact.

He's getting some depth built back up now. I'd certainly expect better than 8-5 and getting clobbered by a team that just started football about what 10 years ago. Can't start slow this year for sure. If JG looks like the bowl game version right off the bat, then maybe we see the freshman early. Nothing looked ready though, QB, coaching staff, team looked slow and unsure of what they were doing at first. It was the best turnaround story of the year that didn't get much press til the very end.

Those glasses he is wearing look like he found them in the floor of the women's section at JC Penny.

I definitely feel more comfortable with Pruitt saying this than Dooley or Butch. He’s been around championship programs and knows what it takes to get there. I would like to see consistent improvement over more than the last 7 games of the year and no let downs like Ga St next year, but I think Pruitt has a better handle on this program than Dooley or Butch ever did. I’m rooting for him, but this fan base definitely knows how to set overly ambitious expectations. So be careful what you wish for.

My expectations are to have a 10 year win streak against the bammers. How do I raise that?

My thoughts exactly. He's missing the mark when he addresses this kind of coach-speak to the fans. It's the players and everyone associated with the TEAM that needs to raise their expectations. Every fan who expected us to beat Georgia State and BYU found out that their expectations were already set too high. Pruitt needs to give us a reason to expect more. I'm actually optimistic. And I expect us to play a full season in 2020. That will go a long way towards raising our expectations as fans.

I don't see that he missed anything by stating everyone associated with the program, fans included, should expect more. He's certainly not dodging the coaching staff/players' share of blame.

Waiting for coaches to raise our expectations and settling for Tier 2 hires is how we wound up with a decade+ of bad football. We should, without interruption, perpetually expect wins over GSU and BYU.

You ain't wrong.

That said... When Dooley made a similar comment, I liked it, even though he couldn't deliver.

It never sat well with me when Butch Jones took a victory lap with a 9 win season.

Well, yeah...I think we should expect even more. But the point is that we did NOT beat them. So it makes no sense to raise expectations that have been proven to already be too high. Winning those types of games is a prerequisite to increasing expectations, IMO. Fans should be expected to continue to support the team. Pruitt should get the team to a place where they can play an entire season at a high level without letdown. Only then will it make sense for the fans to raise their expectations.
