Pruitt - Victim of his own arrogance?

The OP has over 10,000 posts and only 240 likes, that speaks volumes on who the blowhard is.
Another possibility is that he's been a member since the early days of VN, lost his "likes" with the forum transfer last year, and doesn't post all that often. I'm sure he's worried about everyone keeping count, though.

Much has been discussed of Pruitt getting roasted by the local and national media after laying an absolute egg in week 1. When you win, the coach can treat the media that covers the team anyway he wants with little repercussions. Pruitt has seen this from the HC at his previous "successful" stops. Because as we all know, winning cures all ills. What Pruitt is getting a lesson in right now is what happens when you are an arrogant blow-hard that brings a team out looking like trash in a season opener. Those media folks don't have to hold back on their assessment. The reporters have nothing to fear by calling the team and their performance exactly what it was. And that's exactly what is/was happening.

The bad news for Pruitt is this. He also has very few supporters outside the media. Again - no big deal if you're winning. But it's disastrous if you're a failure.

Here's my story. Late last summer I was in Knoxville watching kids play baseball at Lindsey Nelson. It just so happened that the football team was across the street running some station drills. Nothing special, 10 mins and blow a whistle and rotate. Optimism was still high with the Vol faithful because a new coach was in town bringing hope to a battered fanbase. Well, not long after the football team took the field, 2 college kids were running up and down the street and inside Lindsey Nelson telling kids and their parents that Coach Pruitt sent them to tell everyone that they were having a closed practice and no one could look at the field. I mean seriously. The job of these two goons was to run around telling people to look away - we couldn't gaze upon the sacred field on Pruitt's word.

My thought's on this ludicrous behavior? What a completely self-absorbed tool. I mean really. This guy is telling people to look away - not because they are scheming up some trick plays for the 3rd Saturday in October - this was a run-of-the-mill position station practice. What kind of person tells kids they can't look over at the practice field?

So much like how he's alienated the media - he's alienated the fans. Plenty of people have similar stories of this pompous coach. So when they played like trash on Saturday, my first thought was "what a loser" based on that day last summer. If he had any connection with the fan-base at all maybe I'd be willing to think "it's year two, give the guy a break".

Good luck Pruitt. You're gonna need it. But frankly, you're a victim of your own making.
I remember when you told the story the FIRST time...kept me up at night. 😓 Guess he’s learned who not to wrong.

As usual you don't have a damn clue.
I haven’t been wrong about anything yet and I’ll be the first one to say that’s unfortunate. We’ll see how the Pruitt story unfolds in the coming months. Hope I’m wrong but it isn’t looking good.

I'm not so sure most all head coaches aren't like this. Let's face it, they all need a little bit of arrogance to be coach at big P5 schools. Everyone will like Pruitt's oddness if he's winning. Last year, I was traveling up in Michigan around Ann Arbor, and had some time to kill before heading to the airport, so decided to go take a picture of inside the stadium. It late July, so no practice. The stadium was open so I walked thru the big gate and got about 10 yards in before security told me Harbaugh had mandated that no one allowed inside stadium for pictures, and I had to leave.

I don't necessarily agree with how you interpreted the experience with the practice. Practices are closed and the coaches don't have any way of knowing who you are or what you might be doing -- filming, for instance.

But I do agree with your larger point. Pruitt hasn't endeared himself to anyone with his charming personality.
Then practice inside...

Unless we are there all day with him on his job, on the practice field, in the locker room, at home when he's thinking football.....Or anywhere else.....I call bull on him being out of control. I have not seen anything yet to say I agree. I was at the game and about 20 yards away from the famous whiteboard kick.....But I did not see that as being out of control. I saw a penalty flag thrown on him during a game....Still not enough to say he's out of control. Do other coaches show frustration and anger in games? Sure....Steve threw his visor, Dooley pounded his crutches, numerous coaches throw their headsets blah blah blah.....But that to me is not being out of control. Until we have walked the walk with him, I disagree in crucifying the man in a job we do not see doing from day to day. Yes his job is to win and we are frustrated with what we have seen in game one. I'm sick about what we had on the field Saturday but I do not see the "out of control". Sadly it seems folks want instant success and instant championships without the time to build them into the right program without sanctions.

They were sent to tell people not to look at the field? I find that very unlikely considering there is no way to keep anyone from looking at the field. Also if they wanted a closed practice I'm pretty sure they have ways to set that up without having to have 2 college dudes running up and down the street telling everyone.

I'm not Pruitt hugger but this story smells and is a takeoff of documented stories like when Butch told some frat house or whatever it was in the area to shut off Sweet Home Alabama.

It’s certain that not all are true, but when there are so many and they’re so off the wall, then where there is smoke there is fire.
just like this one is so off the wall. You do know that every story you hear has a chance to not be true? Just because its on the internet does not mean its true. People do make up things ,especially when they either dont like the person or things are not going the way they want them to go. Tell us how he is out of control ?
