Pruitt still going with ass't coach mindset?

When you hire coaches that you trust you let them do the job they are hired to do. He spends time with the O during film study.

I agree. Smart administrators surround themselves with trustworthy and capable people who don't need constant oversight. Folks who fit their cog spots in the machine ideally and are dedicated to making that machine run smoothly. So until or unless proven otherwise I opt to believe Pruitt can do it.

The comment by UT's head coach that UT's offense (they) beat "us" (defense)... Probably not advisable. He has to realize that he's the whole team's coach, not just half of it.

What he's really saying is something like this: 'there are 1 or 2, maybe 3 other offenses in this league with offenses just as deep and strong as ours; maybe not as strong on the offensive line, but as a total offense -- we can't afford to get beat by 2, especially not 3 teams in this league, this year.'

It's because he has the utmost confidence in his offensive staff to get their jobs done and the defense needs a lot of love

I'm a big fan of Pruitt so far but I have one concern. With all the time he's spending with the defense, esp. the defensive backs, I wonder if he's still stuck in Defensive Coordinator mode. He even mentioned the transition to coaching both sides of the ball is a new one for him. Hoping Coach Fulmer helps him make the transition to HC.

He has to see the problem to solve the problem. Let him do his job rather than poster like you trying to coach his team from the internet via email.

Doesn't Saban primarily coach DB's?

Yes, he spends most of his time during practice with the DB's because that is he area of expertise. Saban demands that he assistants do their jobs and he oversees as he calls it the "process". Coach Fulmer often spent a lot of time with the OL.

What do you expect him to do. Walk around with a bull horn, play rap music and blurt out some clever cliches and slogans?

I have a few concerns about Pruitt never being a head coach.

Him teaching the techniques he knows best, to the group he knows best while allowing his offensive staff to do the same, is not one of them.

All that.

This is what he knows. Total management is a concern because of the lack of a track record. If he has nailed his offensive staff down and allows them to work while he adds what he knows to where he knows it, he has taken the first step toward the management requirements.

I believe Coach Pruitt said he would coach defense....which is good.

During the meetings, he spends most of his time with the Offense. Almost all the defensive coaches know what he wants, so he doesn't need to sit in those meeting.

Plus, CJP hired an assistant to keep him up to date on everything. Sounds like a head coach maximizing his resources and not micro-managing.

Teaching is the most important thing in the spring. Pruitt is just where he needs to be. The secondary will be much improved with him lending his expertise.

He knows defense and is stressing it which is good. I would rather he leave the offense to the people that know more about it, it shows a high level of trust. Butch never allowed the other coaches that freedom because he was a control freak.

He is coaching where he thinks he needs to which is DBs. I can see him focusing on LBs at some time as well. But first he needs to get the DBs to occasionally look at the QB and for the ball as well as another new concept which is to stay close to the WR so that you can try and make a play.

He knows he isn't a great Offensive coach. But that doesn't mean he won't be a very good game day coach. Just make sure he burns all of CBJ charts.

I think it's the same reason you see a Saban or a Belichick chewing some OC A$$ on the sideline when the offense is struggling or makes a dumb dumb play. OC is hired to do a job. Successful coaches don't have to micro manage every aspect of the game. Well said.

Unlike Botch he trusts his assistant coaches to coach. Pruitt is in charge and that’s not questioned. Don’t worry. GBO

I don't doubt your take on this. I'd like to believe that since he was on the other sideline previously, he saw our glaring weakness on defense firsthand and up close and personal, or personnel as the case may be. Thus knows exactly where to place his primary foci.

I'm not comparing him to Saban but Saban does spend a lot of one on one time with the DB's in practice also. It's his specialty. I think as a head coach in practice, you assist where best you can and where it's most needed.

It's spring and he's installing everything new. If he wasn't coaching in the trenches, we'd have one wasted coach on the field.

This team hasn’t had good coaching on either side of the ball. We should be glad he’s putting in the work.
