Pruitt still confident in Tennessee's trio of freshman DBs

He better hope they improve because if those are the best from fall...we've got troubles.

I for one believe they will improve. A decent pass rush would help the DBs tremendously.

They're good no doubt, I don't know if they will be as tough as WVU since the rest of our opponents aren't air raid offenses. We'll see.

Pruitt knows what great DBs look like, knows who and want he wants, and clearly understands the difficulties he and the young players will endure during the process. We have no choice but to trust him here...and honestly, given his track record, no reason not to.

For the AP to name the QB from WVU as its 1st team QB means they believe he is head and shoulders above the rest. Even though he had 1 td dropped, and missed another one on a wheel route that was a sure TD...he still threw for 5 tds...kid is good. If it were even close between him and the QB from one of the media darlings...bama, fsu, usc, stanford, michigan, notre dame, etc...they would have gotten the nod over a QB from WVU...just like Peyton and the Heistman...Grier is this years Baker Mayfield...the team may lose 5 games...but he will throw for huge numbers and be a fromt runner for the heistman...the TD over flowers was a corner blitz...the td in the 2 TE set was a busted coverage...we will get better on the back end. Fast. I still think after 2 warmup games, we give the gators all they want in ktown...may even win.

For film study this week, Pruitt should just have them watch these two videos on loop for 4 hours a day.

We faced one the best offenses in America basically,with that being said turning ur head to look for the ball should be automatic with an Db.That's just sumthing that's inexcusable.I do believe they were more focused on assignments etc and let a few get by them.Wv adjusted after the first half,and we didn't.Like another poster stated,this was a baptism by fire situation.

It's hard to see that game and not be extremely worried about this year. Just as having tech gash us in last year's opener and App St push around our front in the opener 2 yrs ago -- both seasons followed the trends that unfolded in the openers. Our physical play in trenches is alarming, and our dbs can't do their job when the dline is so soft.

Mel Blount wrote about praying to be the best DB in the NFL in his early years with the Steelers. He prayed that before one game as he was about to take the field against the Raiders when he was gonna have to cover Cliff Branch. Branch took him to school and Blount ended up getting benched at halftime of that game.....

Even the Pro Football Hall of Fame has DBs enshrined who got schooled early in their careers.....

Pruitt knows that....and he also understands that one game doesn't make a career....
