what's your point here? should we have kept butch to maintain that class, which would have still finished 5-8 spots behind either, or both, GA and Bama?

South Carolina has a stud quarterback to go with Muschamp's tough defense, a position he never managed to recruit or develop while at Florida.

such is life in the SEC. this isn't a race to jump ahead, it's a race to keep up, and compete. the East is getting better. and either you believe we have a staff that can compete or you don't. either way we won't find out for a while. i for one look at this coach and this staff and it at least "looks" like an SEC caliber staff. and they're most certainly recruiting players right now that "look like" SEC caliber players.

The Gators hired a proven winner in Mullen. He will have that offense humming in no time, and Florida's defense has been good for 20+ years.

i was a believer in Mullen. but there were more than a few that believed, and should still believe, that he's garbage.
that he is now at FL should mean that FL hired a garbage coach. i don't understand the mentality that says he's garbage here, but a star there. where's all the stats about his top 10 record? his SEC record? his inability to recruit at an elite level? he wasn't good enough to coach here, but at FL he's going to be great?

That's four losses right there. That puts us in the middle of the pack at best with Missouri and Kentucky both improving.

I don't see how we break out of this cycle of despair unless we somehow land a Johnny Football/Cam Newton type program changer, and even then... Do we have the surrounding cast?

We have an AD who has never been an AD. We have a head football coach who has never been a head football coach. We have a defensive coordinator who has never been a defensive coordinator, and we have an offensive coordinator who has never called plays.

and yet they're all better equipped to run this program and coach football than anyone else this program has put out there in the last 10 years. we're not even a month in to this deal. it's definitely time to give up.:blink:

I am more worried about our bickering power brokers and short sighted administrators. Fulmer, Pruitt, Sherrer, and Helton might be sound enough as long as the rug isn't being yanked under their feet.

There should be a thread for sunshine pumpers who live in lala land, and you should be confined to it, a sort of play pen for infants, while the adults talk.

Bingo.

With respect to Mullen, it's certainly possible he is just McElwain 2.0 - offensive mind in a conference dedicated to tough defense. Two things in his favor, he did make the Vandy of the west (last of the rest) better; and with all the talent laying around in FL, it's hard to be a complete bust there.

i think Mullen has still not gotten enough credit for what he did at a program like MSU in a division like the SEC W.

If Mullen could find success in Miss state of all places in A MUCH harder West division you would have to be bonkers to think he could not get Florida back to being the power they used to be. Mullen in Florida has me more worried then Smart. He may fail but he is the best fit for that program since Urban Meyer.

Bad officiating.

Interception overtuned on a roughing the passer call that resulted in a TD for Iowa. QB did not fall down.

Memphis would have beat us senseless for the past 6 years. Thank the stars we didn't have to deal with that.
