He would be running the Wing-T offense. Thoughts?

The high school my mom teaches at has won 30+ consecutive games and three state titles in a row with a variation of the wing T.

I didn’t take that literal, just stating he has focused his career on the defensive side of the ball.

I’m curious though, what’s the plan for the D if Vandy runs tempo. We struggle with that. How does it change the defensive play calling, substituting, etc. How to be successful against no huddle?

I didn't take it literal either, just thought it was an interesting topic lol.

We could always fake cramps to slow tempo? Everyone else does it, why not?

That definitely cross my mind when I was thinking of solutions. I mean force incompletions and qb hits is another way I was thinking. Teams can only run up tempo if they are completing those quick hitters and staying upright. Let Big Alexis pancake Shurmer a couple times and just lay there 😂

I'm partial to the Wing T since we ran it back in HS (And they still run it very successfully); however, a school that gets the caliber of athletes that UT gets should not have to resort to that offense. I do not understand why teams like UK, Vandy, or Arky does not run a variation of that offense though since they just don't get the athletes needed to run a more traditional offense....

As an aside, we lined up some in the shotgun running a variation of that back in the day against Melrose (since they started an entire SEC DL). It looked very similar to some of the schemes that Meyer ran at Florida.

Wing-t is what you run with undersized linemen. It's more of a misdirection type of offense. Would work great with our current players if the lineman are fast enough.
Watching the OL this year, they seem to be pretty darn quick getting out of the way of the blitzes coming; so who knows. It might work.

Has he ran anything that worked yet. Uh, he is the head coach right ? Sometimes it is just better to keep your mouth shut and say nothing at all

He was asked in the Wed. presser if he had plans to be involved in the offensive play calling, and he said he used to call offensive plays when he was a HS coach, and he said his offense ran the Wing-T. But I imagine if he had just kept his mouth shut during a presser, there were be someone on VN, maybe in this thread, complaining that he has a responsibility to answer questions that are asked during the presser.

One of our local high schools (Naperville North) has run it forever with a decent amount of success.
I’ve always thought it was a “high school offense “

Butch’s/Debord’s offense included some variations of the wing t using power spread concepts. He also ran the Veer and used a counter trey play quite a bit. Offensive production was much higher than it has been in the past couple of years, so there is that.

Pruitt will never win with the current offensive scheme that can only score 30 points on its best day, but volnation will call for his head if he switches to any offense that doesn’t include a fullback to Telegraph every play.

I started to try with a reasonable football point of view, but why bother if you think “scheme “ is the problem with our offense.
