Pruitt says, “We weren’t close enough” for FG

What’s worse...Pruitt saying that we weren’t close enough for that field goal or Butch only doing what his chart tells him to do ie: not going for it on 4th from the 2 against OU

Did anyone else see the article where Pruitt was asked why he elected not to kick a field goal in the 4th qrtr to make it a one score game? The ball was on the 25 yd line and Pruitt said, “We weren’t close enough.” Are you kidding me!! Cimaglia had already hit a 48 and 50 yarder. This was a 42 yd FG. What is going on in Pruitt’s head?

His choice of words makes him seem like an idiot here, but I think going for it there was the right move. 4th and 4 (I think it was) is relatively short, and you only need 25 yards to finish the drive. With time a factor and our offense being terrible, this was probably our best chance to get a TD. Besides that, if you kick the FG before you get a TD, you are now locked into making the 2 pt conversion, whereas if you get the TD first and fail the 2pt conversion, you at least have an opportunity to throw a hail mary if you can get possession back. In any case, the refs ended up missing a clear pass interference. I'm not sure why that wasn't looked at, but here we are.

He is from Alabama, so nothing is going through his head.

Did any of the interviewers correct him on the distance ? They should have and I would of like to seen what kind of BS he would of came up with then.

The man clearly struggles with certain things in our society. Math. Asparagus. Talented QBs. You can't blame him for the way he was brought up, aight.

This is spot on. You want to score the touchdown first to know if the field goal even helps you. Odds of making a 40+ yard field goal along with a 2 pt conversion are comparable to converting 4th and 4. Nothing wrong with the call to go for it

Yeah this was exactly my thinking as well. That's what you'll see most coaches do in that situation I think. And the missed PI on that play kinda did it in anyways!

Also... did anyone else notice that the clock didn't stop on one of our first downs during the next drive? Did I dream that? Made me angry.

The next drive was the last drive and the clock stopped on every 1st down. Are you referring to a different drive?
