Most fans thought Pruitt was a solid hire (I'm not one of them). Now most think Fulmer is not capable of making a good hire. He made a bad one. So have a lot of other good ADs. I would rather have Fulmer making the hire than some administrative egghead who doesn't know squat about football and without the NADS to stand up to the academic eggheads who would like to see nothing more than the football program continue to decline.Sigh-Fulmer will not make the final decision or possibly any decision at all on a new coach. In fact who knows what Fulmer’s status will be after this fiasco.

Fulmer could have swallowed his pride and hired Leach and we would more than likely be better than 3-7 this year. He’s the last successful coach at Tennessee. I put more stock into him making a good hire with a search that he starts and finishes. Like I said, he will own the Pruitt hire to his grave. But to think he had an equal playing field of a coaching search as other jobs is absurd. And it’s clear he’s gonna have a broader booster base behind him than what Currie and Hart had when they reported to one donor family.

Doeren passed on us. But I think that was before Phil arrived. Brohm passed on us. I remember others passing on us as well. This left him going after Pruitt, Tucker and Steele. He completely botched this hire and could have definitely found someone better than Pruitt.
At this point, I even think we'd be better off if we had just kept Butch.
In no particular order....
Clemson
Notre Dame
Oklahoma
Texas
USC
Ohio State
Penn State
Texas A&M
LSU
Auburn
Georgia
Florida
Alabama
Oregon
Arguments can also be made for
Florida State
Miami
Michigan
Washington
I agree with a lot of what you posted except I thought Pruitt could be the guy until the 2nd half of the Georgia game when I knew he would never be a HC that could take us to a top 10 program level. I think with the news about possible serious rule infractions today and some comments here by insiders that Fulmer’s antics are going to be exposed and it will not be flattering then he may be on the hot seat along with Pruitt. Most fans thought Pruitt was a solid hire (I'm not one of them). Lol. Some of you guys still trashing Leach. He has a long resume to prove he's been successful at both Texas Tech and Washington St. Guarantee he will have more than 3 wins in his third year at Mississippi State. Nobody expects him to even win a conference championship in Starkville. What he will do is make them a very difficult team to beat on Saturdays. And will occasionally beat the top teams in the SEC West.Leach is a trainwreck. Thank the Lord we didn’t hire him.

Oregon because of NIKE money and the PAC-12 competition.
Clemson has always had this capability, just never done it. The other factor is the lack of competition. I mean who does Clemson have to beat every year. FSU and Miami. And if those two are down, not even them.
If I was a coach, the Clemson job is easily more attractive.
LSU, A&M, Auburn, Georgia, Clemson and Oregon are not top 14 jobs and you can't say that 14 jobs are better than Michigan.
He made it clear earlier in the season that there were some players that probably weren't a good fit for the program. More than likely those are the ones leaving and he'll be able to get the type of players he wants and needs in order for them to be more successful. He’s successful at schools that suck. He never won anything of notable at WSU. Literally players are quitting the team in Starkville because of him. His recruiting is trash. Good riddance.

Mississippi State is ranked 31st on Rivals and 37th on 247 Sports right now. I bet Mullen didn't fare much better in recruiting. However, I bet Leach is recruiting better talent to Starkville than he was at Pullman.
There's a reason Mullen is now at Florida. Only so much a great coach can do in Starkville.
Your Oregon/PAC 12 competition point kills LSU, Auburn and A&M from your list. Clemson has never been a top job until Dabo - they won natty in '81 but that was their first trip to a big bowl game since the '59 Sugar Bowl, and no top 14 school would've had Tommy West as head coach.
Be careful with this statement.
LSU, Auburn, A&M have better recruiting bases and a recency of success. The last 3 head coaches at LSU have won a national title. The last 4 head coaches at Auburn have either won a national title, had an undefeated season, or played for a national title. And A&M has had all the pieces necessary in place, but just hasn't done it.
