Pruitt not happy with Spring Game attendance

My problem is that he apparently doesn't view that it is his job to inspire the players and the fans to be excited about Tennessee football. He would rather "blame" them instead of himself and the other coaches.

If Jones had said something like that - many on here would have been all over him.

I thought players quit on the coach??. Just last year that was a reason to bash Jones and the other coaches. Now it is reason to praise Pruitt.

Hopes he wins some games ... if not this will get very ugly mid-season.

So the same players that quit on Jones (The guy that signed them) do the same with a new coach going a different direction that becomes an indictment on Pruitt. His job is to win football games. Jones supposedly inspired the players, had fan support for 4+ years and his azz got canned because he couldn't win.

It's funny how hypocritical coach followers get.

Bottom line is it's just a scrimmage/practice. Personally I don't understand why anyone would want to go especially if you live out of town. Maybe Pruitt would want to came and watch me work some time.

Without someone scanning tickets this is all guesswork for everyone. Folks will put the number where they want it to be to support their agenda.

First when trying to say it’s a southern thang , using y’all instead of you all is more believable . This forum was filled with threads on coach jones issues with in game coaching and questionable calls , ill use the first and goal without a running play as just one example . I agree he first three years was exciting with a talented team but after that I think squad left something happened , the the talent level dropped , players transferred , lots of locker room problems . So I think it’s safe to say jones didn’t have a handle on the team . Pruitt isn’t getting a pass I don’t think , he just isn’t carrying around all that baggage and his methods so far are strict , physical , tough love . I believe this is something refreshing to most that we haven’t had in a while .

Some are. They are no different than those carrying Jones water for him regardless of what he did or said. I guess you can have that both ways, it's hypocritical but you can do it.

You act as if players across the board get on board with every coaching change and the transition is seamless. That's ignorance on a new level. If some players are willing to quit on the guy that recruited them here and play a part in him being fired as the coach, is it really a shock that they quit again? Maybe that's why the were 4-8 last year and 0-8 in the conference. That's the players any coach needs to get it back.
The only thing Pruitt did was publically state that it happened, even tho he didn't drop names. That's not being negative it's just stating where you are.
Pruitt doesn't need to inspire or excite you. Jones didn't either. He just needs to do his job and fix the real problem.

Jones had 2 years that were good compared to Dooley. He also blew very winnable situations and lost to 2 very average SC and Vandy teams that cost him a shot at a really good year.

Pruitt could be a Russian for all I care. He went to and is from Bama so he's not far off. That falls into the idea that I don't need to be excited about he just needs to win. If you want to get hung up on that, feel free.

There was more than that. The bottom bowl was pretty full and a smattering of fans in the upper deck. I'd say realistically there was probably 55k or so.

I don't remember more than 45K in the Fulmer years. Beat a top ranked team and you might see 100K at this game. Be happy the stadium is full on game days.

Only those with no life care about a spring game. Players do not care. Former players do not care. It is practice. Nothing more. But Tennessee sold out it's allotment of 72,500 with a waiting list while Fulmer was here. After him you got Bill Boards, meet your seats and other gimmicks to try and sell season tickets. Many claim all the Kiffin's first game.....it was not a sellout and the upstairs end zone was almost empty. It was the first game under 100K since expansion of the stadium. Hammy flat out ruined this program.

My agenda was logic dictating that the game would have about this level of attendance and that the AD would not allow any number under this exact one to be reported. Wow, I was exactly right according to at least one source not directly part of the propaganda machine.

I've done that for every coach we've had. Even Dooley, who was a known leadership train wreck after less than a year and a half.

Far as I can tell, that's just respect and loyalty, two values most folks tend to cherish in most walks of life.

I know that the Vols wagon is hitched to them, each in turn, as the lead horse. We all win together.

So I'm constantly looking for things they do that I can appreciate. I'm kind of a student of leadership, so I especially keep an eye on their leadership attributes, decisions and actions.

And fact is, not a single coach has been a complete loser in the realm of leadership. Butch had his strengths, Kiffin amazingly has strengths, and even Dooley--the weakest leader of the modern era among Vols head coaches--did a few things well.

So I applaud what they do well, and try to look off the times they goof up...until it becomes impossible to ignore any more. Then I bite my tongue, giving them the respect of no ranting as long as they still wear orange.

To the new guy, he has the Kiffin feel to me less the side show and talk.

I thought Kiffin was a grade A d!×/ and wasn't a fan personally but he had a good staff in place and coached em hard.
