Pruitt needs 5 years

QB situation should have been resolved early last season. It’s obvious tha Pruitt does not have good judgement. Recruits will pick up on that. Downhill from here out. He is not a good coach!

I know this thread will get destroyed here lol.. But I have 5 major reasons why Coach Pruitt needs at least 5 years at TN...

1. To get ALL his recruits in.. and really you could argue he needs 6 years bc his first recruiting class were mostly Butch’s recruits, not his.....a lot of players get redshirted every year, so 6 years would really be ideal...

2. Football is a slow developmental sport, both mentally and physically, so it takes years for players to be completely developed to their potential....

3. To send a message of stability to the recruits and their families.. that TN won’t give us on our coaches when things are not going our way, just like the coaches won’t give up on our recruits/ players.... we are a big TN family no matter what...

4. To send a message to our current coaches and any/ all future coaches.... we support all our coaches until proven otherwise over a fair amount of time.... if we don’t support our coaches then it will be that much harder to get great or even good coaches in the future....

5. Because our fans are being Totally unrealistic about this rebuild!!! We had the worst record in the entire History of TN football!! We were the WORST team in the entire SEC!! 0-8 in league play! Outside of the past 12 years, the biggest rebuild in the past 50 years was orchestrated by Coach Johnny Majors.. and his records his first 7 years.....
1977 - 4–7
1978 - 5–5–1
1979 - 7-5
1980 - 5-6
1981 - 8–4
1982 - 6–5–1
1983 - 9–3

Johnny didn’t hit 8 wins until his 5th year, and didn’t get 9 wins Until year 7....

In summary, I know it’s painful to watch us playing like this, but really if you look at the big picture, we need to give Pruitt at least 2 more years after this season....

However, all of his assistant coaches, including Friend and Chaney Need to be thoroughly assessed after the season, Bc the offense is horrendous lol...

This post could easily be a copy/paste from some of the Dooley and Butch threads. Just change the names and post it in a Pruitt thread...

no, he needs 9, the first 4 he started JG. so those don't count

Those who believe that a coach should get 5-7 years to rebuild a program probably spent at least that long finishing High School.

Tennessee football coaches are always judged by being able to win the East and beating Bama. Right now Pruitt is failing miserably at both because he is too stubborn to try someone new at QB. While I respect him, JG is only going to win you a max of 40% of the games he starts.

I don't think Pruitt feels any pressure at all right now and that he has as much time as he needs to rebuild the program. Is that good or bad?

It would be good if by yr 5 our program was competing for the SEC but the fan base would be exploding as we are short on patience now, and for good reason. It would be really bad to fire him after yr 3 because he is not meeting our expectations as fans and TN is really bad at hiring FB coaches.

Its a real dilemma and there is probably no right/wrong answer.

UT football will fade into obscurity because we can’t afford to fire him now and thus we will retain him longer than we ought to which will actually be worse in the long run. They’ll lose so much more in revenue due to fan apathy in the long run. This train is going off the tracks and JG is the one shoveling the coals in the engine.
