The book on CJP as UT HC is being written. I am not a blind devotee because of his DC prowess. A HC has to do more than simply coach Xs and Os. This season will be extremely challenging. I predicted us to finish 4-8. For me to buy in fully on CJP i want to see, at minimum, a team 1. prepared, 2. enthusiastic, and 3. improving.

I have been critical of what I've seen in games 1-4. No need to rehash it here. Even though watching UGA handle us with relative ease is always painful, I believe there was improvement.

Where did you see improvement?
Where are we still sucking wind?
Any of you who are in "wait and see" mode, does the improvement move CJP up a rung on the ladder of buy in for you?

We was actually able to put a couple of drives together that resulted in points.

The defense showed a lot of heart & toughness until they ran out of gas.

My outlook on Pruitt still hasn’t changed.

I still expected a rough 1st season but I think we’re slowly heading into the right direction.

Improvement- defense were pretty good until they get exhausted from being on the field all day. FG kicker is good.

Sucking wind- offensive play calling is a joke. Fumbles are a problem. Kick return is worse. Both punt and kickoff.

He hasn’t moved up in my book until he stops running off tackle on 1st and 2nd down and gets our qb killled on 3rd in an obvious passing down.

We move the ball when we mix the pass in on 1st and 2nd so why not try if before being down by 3-4 tds?

You were hopeful on CJP from the beginning, right?

Are you pro/con CJP or wait and see?

No change in how I view him.
He has a lot fb knowledge but I admit, I won't know how that translates to the HC position until he's had some time and recruits.

Defense is progressing but on the field way too much.
I like that he's calling out offensive play calling. We didn't run on every first down this week and I bet we won't throw a lot of ill timed passes behind the line of scrimmage next week.

The other negatives are the same as we've rehashed.

Pruitt wasn’t my first choice and I didn’t like the hire at first.

I gave Butch & Dooley chances so I’ll do the same with Pruitt.

There’s still a lot of improvement needed but I like Pruitt’s passion for wanting to win.

Time will tell.

Definitely wait and see. Not to high on him right now cause he won’t change his offensive philosophy for what he has right now.

He wants to be bama north and that’s fine but we don’t have the talent right now to run it down your throat like he wants to do.
Yea talent just not we’re it needs to be. Not particularly happy with play calling. It’s very predictable

I think there is no point during the first year where it makes sense to start reaching conclusions about the coaching staff. Too much transitional turmoil: in the schemes and playbook, in the roster, and in the culture of the program.

Anyone reaching a conclusion this season is jumping the gun. And anyone not supporting the coaches while we wait to see how it plays out is just wrong.

That's how I see it.

p.s. Since you're going to ask: I'm hopeful for and supportive of CJP and Co. I'm hopeful for and supportive of every coach who dons orange for us. I'm always gonna wish the guy at the helm success, because our destinies become intertwined when he is hired.

I think this is on purpose. The strategy for the first half of the Florida and Georgia game appeared to be to eat the clock as much as possible. Which meant running on 1st and 2nd down most drives. When the second half rolled around we opened the offense up some more.

Lane Kiffin did a similar strategy when he was here.

What I saw while in Athens yesterday helps me understand why Lane Kiffin secreted himself away from Knoxville in the middle of the night. He knew something...................
SMDH, but this football program is pretty dang frustrating.

Heck, if Schiano had become our coach (I shudder to consider the hypothetical, but there it is), I would have been hopeful and supportive. I'm always gonna wish the guy at the helm success, because our destinies become intertwined when he is hired.
Appreciate it. I dont anticipate conclusive decisions this season. I do want to feel more confident...and i will with those 3 parameters. Dont think any of those are unreasonable.

You saw improvement Saturday?

Sounds about right! It’s clear our talent level hinders our schemes and play calling

I dont follow what you mean by the Lane Kiffin analogy.

Is talent deficiency limiting the playcalling in your opinion?
Didn't ask me but I think that's a yes and no.

No - there are things Helton could do to increase chances of MANY plays but If we did them all the time, the defense would just prepare for them.

Yes- even when we call the simplest and correct call for a situation, some of our 'talent' still leads to a failure. Twice yesterday I watched two of our guys block the same person, while another defender ran right around them to JG.
Just ridiculous.

Pruitt is implementing his system even before he has the proper players for it. Good strategy?

I did. But it's hard to tell what is permanent improvement, and what is just quirks of fate. From Week D to Week E, some things are going to change. Some of those changes will be improvements, and some will be setbacks. But which are real indicators of direction, and not just single-week blips? Almost impossible to tell.

For instance, our run game seemed worse this week, until late in the game. But that could be a blip. Our defensive backs seemed better. Again, though, could be a blip.

Have to observe a trend of improvement that runs several games in a row; then you know you're on to something.

The only multi-week trend I think I've seen is that our lads seem to be getting tougher, more devoted to "straining" throughout the game in CJP's terms. Not positive that's what we're seeing, but it seems that way.

Everything else is a muddle so far.

Yes. Mostly in the quarterback department
Disagree. I would say offense of line. It’s struggled for years. Dooley really hurt the culture of picking up good offense of lineman. Tenn was known for having good lines. And once other programs went after good lineman. It kind of shied away from the oline culture at UT. Dooley didn’t recruit no top olineman when he was there. Kinda changed the whole culture of wanting to be a olineman for UT

The only multi-week trends I think I've seen are that we play worse in the 1st Qtr than the rest of the game (that doesn't seem to be getting better or worse; stagnant), and our lads seem to be getting tougher, more devoted to "straining" throughout the game in CJP's terms.
Good perspective. After all, Butch beat a 11th ranked Spurrier team. But now we see that as a blip and not a sign of what was to come.
