Pruitt just said offensive coordinators are overrated

AND could only scheme to get 6 TDs for Julio Jones (arguably one of the top 3 WR in the league) in 14 games. Didn't have a TD the first 8 games! I'm not impressed. And, with other potential OC's available, I would be FURTHER depressed about our prospects if Sark becomes our OC.

Well...Julio did double his total from 3 in 2017 to 6 so far this year so that's progress LOL.

The weapons that team has, even with Ridley and Freeman injured, and this team shouldn't be struggling to score against anyone. Soft schedule and the defense has been beat up but they have gotten embarrassed more than a few times this year.

A few people have said that the OC has already been hired, most notably Doug Matthews. Doug is Phil's boy , so he would know I didn't see any waffling from the offensive recruits , so I tend to believe it. If this is true , the recruits already know. I would suspect that the announcement will come after bowls or the NFL winds down.

Beecher - you get nailed on your position and then you try to get out of it by asking these silly questions

You don't get to play the "no talent" card only when it benefits your defense of the coach. We either had enough talent to compete against the likes of ranked Auburn and Kentucky, and as such should have been able to compete with that same talent against Vanderbilt, or those wins against Auburn and Kentucky were more about them playing poorly against our "no-talent" team.

So which is it? Were we a no-talent team that lucked up in those wins against Auburn and Kentucky?

It's almost like some of you can't accept the fact that Pruitt is going to make mistakes, and make some poor decisions as a first-time head coach, and you'll throw the entire team under the bus to defend him from any criticism; it's quite bizarre.

I'm not what you're saying I am. You're like OP generating fake news. We are a team with no depth, very little actual talent (none of our 2018 players would start on any current top 5 ranked team) and an attitude problem leftover from the previous regime.

Yes Pruitt the unproven rookie has made mistakes. But I see a 5 win team that was only expected to win 4 games. They could have snd should have won more with better attitude and more effort. But quitters are gonna quit. That ain't on Pruitt. He's getting more of his guys on the roster. I will be disappointed to see players quit next year. I can handle losing but I can't stand quitters.

Some of you have ZERO patience. Chill and let this thing play out. We're not going to be world beaters for a few more years. That's ok as long as we dont quit and stop getting blown out.. then we'll get there.

There is only so much you can do with Butchs offensive scheme.

Tennessee just needs consistency. If we are recruiting players for a pro style offense then we need to stick to pro style coordinators.

And I think we will stick to pro style coordinators. I don't believe the high profile oc's were ever made an offer to come to UT because they did not run the offense Pruitt wants. In my opinion we can't win much with pro style, with our talent we must out scheme our opponents. You have to have equal or superior talent to run smash mouth football and we don't have that at the present time. I'm not saying we can never do it at Tn. but it will take some years of good recruiting. Better recruiting than this years to catch up. Unless we have some very good ones coming on later.. Again this is just my opinion.

So Auburn and Kentucky lost to our talent-less team, rather than us beating them?

So you believe that all college football players are intrinsically motivated, and the head coach isn't responsible for motivating his team to win?

I would be lying if I said this didn't concern me at all... but it's Pruitt's program and we have no choice but to hope he knows what he's doing and trust his judgement.

Well my honest opinion is this. If an oc is going to run hc. offense it doesn't make much difference and they are not that important. However, a good oc that is allowed to run their own offense makes a lot of difference.

Because he has overwhelming talent. WE DON'T. We need a competitive advantage, because we very clearly cant outrecruit them.

You hit the nail on the head. I totally agree. When a team has better talent than you do, you need every advantage you can get to beat them.

Its all about the wins on the field. Friend as oc suits me as long as winning returns
To Tennessee.

I knew he wouldn't win out, especially not with Alabama as the next game, and you were still espousing patience with Butch because he was only 5 years into what he said would be a 6-7 year rebuild.

You seem to have a heightened proclivity to coach-worship.

I was hoping for the best. It may have worked out that way even tho I was wanting the Vols to win out.

Coach worship? To want a coach to do good because they are a coach for the Vols. Busted.

I want CJP to do great, because he is the Vol’s HC. When he was at gumpaloosa I did know his name. Once he was named the Vols HC, I wanted him to do great.

I want the Vols to do great things no matter who the coach is.

I don’t pretend to know the future any more. It confuses people.

I don’t pretend to know all of the past either. There is just too much of it.

Patience will be important for CJP too. We’ll see how it works out.

I expect him to turn the corner in 2019 and prove he deserves to be a HC in the SEC.

No.

That actually might be worth having an issue with.
So was he not referring to the players with that statment? Maybe thing will change when we recruit better cheerleaders or something+ no, wait...he did say players. So he made a statement about the team as a whole and yeah, thats a pretty pathetic thing for a coach to do.
Don't worry, I get that to some any criticism of the great Jeremy Pruitt is about like walking into a Baptist Church and claiming that Jesus Christ isnt real.
