When you are staring 1-6 in the face no matter who starts, you have to see what you have in Maurer and Shrout. JG is a lost cause at this point and he will likely not even be on the team next season.

Or, JG played decent last year when the coach wasn't publicly singing his praises and declaring him the only designated starter on the team. Maybe this is getting back to that position while also signaling to him he is on a short leash and this is one of his last chances to step up or get passed by.
