Don’t allow yourselves to think your even remotely close to the level of this coaching staff when it comes to football. Your not! I think it’s hilarious to listen you all. You don’t even break down the plays and most of you have probably never stepped onto a football field. Lololol 😂

Speculation on my part but based on CJP showing these guys film of his past stars at Bama, Georgia and FSU getting beat in order to show them even good players lose sometimes and its not if you lose but how you move forward tells me he was concerned about getting them out of their loser mindset. I think he just wanted the opportunity to score first. I'm sure he was hoping like us his OL would allow the Vols to run on their D. Didn't work but he wasn't playing scared all his chips were in the middle of the table right away, proof is that 4th down pass for the first TD.

Strategy wise the only thing I could come up with is "why give them a free possession to start the game?". I think the mindset had to be to get the game of keep away started early. Just didn't work out.

Just odd for a defensive minded guy to take the ball.

Maybe Pruit was thinking take the ball score and make them chase us on points/scoreboard. Hey he went with his gut, didn’t work. Nothing ventured nothing gained. In the end it didn’t matter one way or another. Game 1 over. Onto Game 2 after this week a lot of week 1 winners will be 1-1. Let’s hope we are too. GBO

How does the punter not know this or the Special Teams coach remind him to snap at 1 on the play clock when he is running onto the field?

Pretty sure the punter is a freshman. We actually hit a great punt and had a stupid penalty giving them 15 yards. Pruitt took the responsibility on that play though for not burning more time off the clock before kicking instead of calling his player out for the stupid penalty.

Really motivation and incentive of some type got this caliber of coaches to come to UT from some pretty good programs. Not sure of coach Kelly but the others could have stayed on their same jobs. Some got upgrades as far as title and likely salary but assembling a quality staff in the short amount of time it took speaks volumes. When every aspect is taken into account the bottom line is time. They, meaning players and coaches, haven't meshed as a unit. I look for UT football to make strides before UF comes to town and I don't think UF can field a QB and receivers as good as UWV had.
I didn't watch the JP Show this week but that show is part of his contract I assume. I don't think he cares much about talking to the media but when he does he seems to be straight-forward and direct and completely honest. He appears to be considerate of others and their welfare. He can only do so much with what he's got and he knows the mistakes made Saturday and pointed out that the coaches put the players in bad positions at times. I think UT will put a much improved team on the field in the coming weeks. Go Big Orange!!

While I don't consider it a mistake by CJP, Callaway was open all day against the WV CB #24. It became obvious this was a mismatch, however, we didn't seem to exploit it. We threw just three comebacks to Callaway for easy completions. The adage has always been if something works stick with it until they stop it. I also kept waiting for a stop-n-go play to Callaway, but it never happened either. I chalk this up to missed opportunities. Seems we left at least a couple of big plays on the table.

First year HCs will make mistakes. While it's good that CJP is acknowledging those mistakes and taking ownership, it's still to be seen if he can learn from and improve upon those mistakes. It's all well and good to fall on the sword for your team, but you have to follow-through with correcting problems.

All said and done after Saturday, the true test of CJP will be to see how / if this team improves week over week. Final win record is less important than CJP being able to install improvements over time.

Pruitt was like our 12 coaching choice but I do believe he is committed to succeeding in his first HC'ing job. What sucks is Butch left him squat to work with and his tenure here may over before he can build anything. Not sure we can wait 4-5 years to see if he is the right man. I am just at a loss as a fan.....:rolleyes:

The offensive line was way too inconsistent to protect JG long enough throw deep multiple times. I think Helton threw that out the window once he saw how bad the Oline was.
I agree with you on not deferring to the second half. We would have been way better off trying to stop them on D right away with fresh legs in the first quarter.

I don't like the way Pruitt called corner blitzes. The one play in particular left the safety hanging out to dry and gave them an easy TD.

The solution is very simple if CJP doesnt work out. Hire a freaking proven successful HC.

With the right guy I'm fairly certain popcorn and t-shirt sales will offset any extra that he requires to be paid

I don’t think taking the ball to start the game was a mistake at all. Why would you willingly give Grier and that offense the ball to start the game. He obviously wanted the ball hoping to score and set the tone. Personally don’t think that was a mistake.

Also, supposedly ran several RPOs, including first play of the game.

Agree with other points, should’ve thrown it more and further downfield. JG was very good Saturday.

It probably had something to do with hogging the ball. Slowing the game down to keep Grier off the field. It just blew up in his face because the O line execution was so poor to start the game. That allowed WV to get momentum, which has always worked against us

JG cant really run dude. That "dual threat" stuff was resume fluff.

Before it's all said and done, we'll be complaining about the other extreme from Butch with Pruitt. He'll be TOO confident, TOO aggressive, TOO "go for it." But it'll translate into some swagger filled teams. And I love it. Excited for that.
