Pruitt has built the defense to be elite, working on the offensive side now...

Who knows how the stress and extra distractions will affect Pruitt down the road, but for now, I see him being at home in the grass, like another poster mentioned , and caring little of anything off the field. He would probably love to win every game and store the trophies in the basement .

Why would Fulmer have any clue about competent assistant coaches in this day and age? I don't get that opinion I keep hearing. Fulmer has no experience with assistant coaches in this era, and has few remaining contacts heavily involved in on-field coaching today. Jeremy Pruitt would be much more in-tune with today's assistant coaching pool. I highly doubt he asks for assistance in that area. I think Fulmer can be a good resource for program building from a big picture sense, and he can teach Pruitt about the differences of being an assistant to the responsibilities of a head coach, but I just can't see that Pruitt seeks much on-field advice or hiring advice. His foray into the politics at UT has prepared him better than I expected for the AD position. I think he probably shields Pruitt from that stuff to a large degree.
Thought I get where you're going there I think you are wrong.

Direct knowledge nah Fulmer does not have it but he knows the basics and has proven he has the ability to listen about the things he does not get. Social media has a huge effect on culture and how things turn out. But, I think people overplay how different it actually is vs how things were. As long as one thing is true. Accept that social media is a thing and it affects life. I think Fulmer knows this. What makes a good football player and a coach hasn't changed a lot as far as skills. Personality required has changed. As long as you're aware of the social media part. There will never be another Vince Lombardi, Bill Belichick, or even Saban. Those types of coaches won't work from step 1 anymore. Saban has a bit more time and Belichick is done. They will still persist and be strong but its because they've already built their empires. These days a coach has to be aware of perception as well as results. To some extent, all coaches have to be 'players' coaches.

had to cut it off had more to say but the wall of text has already reached critical levels.

You may be right, but I do think Fulmer is plugged into the coaching network better than say.. a Currie, a Hart, or a Hamilton. There is a fraternity of old coaches that keep up with things.

CJP, has always been working both sides and special teams. He is just having more success now on the offensive side. Don't forget, last year was a bonanza for OL.

If we get this 6-7, 250 TE kid out of Alabama, Trinity Bell, man he will be a matchup problem for LBs/Safeties.

According to rankings, UT has one of the most talented OL's in the country this fall. There are players behind them with the talent to develop into a long string of great OL's.

I'd love for us to finally jump the shark and stay in at least the upper half of all offensive stats nationally.

You and I see eye to eye most of the time. But in this case, might not elite be just a little premature ??
Maybe but Henry T, Crouch, Taylor and Thompson are all capable of having All-SEC type years and our DL is big, talented and deep. Henry T could be the best defensive player in the league before he's finished I believe, he's built and plays just like former All-American Donte Hightower from Lewisburg, Tn. I feel like we're going to have the best defensive team in the SEC either this year or next as our D is going to be loaded for the 21 season. Top 4 in this conference would be great

Your omissions and inclusions... are telling. And it doesn't paint you "unbiased".
I didn't omit anyone purposely, any other playmaker someone would like to add is just a plus for the Vols. This years WR class is one of our strongest in recent years with all types of different types, including game changing speed. Our OL is stacked, anchored by 5* all over, we've got a stable of RBs, I think Chandler should be included as a playmaker and I'm on record as saying we have one of if not the best QB rooms in the SEC this upcoming season. The point being that I believe our offense is shaping up to be pretty good. I guess you don't see it that way. You claim we've reached our ceiling and I don't see it that way.

I think all signs point to it. If our running game jumps like it should I believe we'll definitely be upper half offensively and very well rounded in both the running and passing games. That will allow our defense to win a bunch of games for the Vols!

Just think of Bell lined up at TE with 6'5 235 Beckwith lined up beside him in the slot with Wideman, Hyatt and Holiday all spread out! Vols are going to be good offensively in '21 I think, potential is there this season if JG gets a bit more consistent and our running game improves like it should playing behind the best OL the Vols have had in years.

Totally agreed. I think Phil is tapped in its one reason he realized coaching again was not his bag anymore. He realized 2 things. 1 a new era was beginning (social media) and he wasn't able to fit in there from a mentality standpoint. 2 he bleeds orange and didn't really want to go somewhere else. So, he evolved and transitioned from coach to upper management.
