Pruitt Frustrated By Lack of Support

I actually like Fulmer as an AD but this was a poor decision for the reasons you give. I think they did it because Pruitt's agent convinced them its the "way it is done." It actually is but as you indicate... someone should actually think those things through.

The question the AD has to ask himself is, "Am I OK losing this guy if he builds the program and is successful enough to get an offer I'm not ready to match?" To me... that answer is almost always "yes". Worst case is you have a guy who has built the program to a point that helps the next guy succeed.

Fulmer doesn't have the negotiating acumen or the management skills to be an effective AD; so far his decisions have shone as much.

I'm willing to wait it out to see. I think he's a political animal. He'll be good for fundraising. He'll be good for the "VFL" ideal and support of former athletes.

Unfortunately, he is prone to giving unearned loyalty. The Pruitt extension goes deeper than Fulmer. I don't know who has a say... but am sure it isn't just him.

you want to win? His name is Lane Kiffin. Give him another chance. The best option. He will win big. Just give him another chance.

He is great as OC and with QBs but he's never done anything anywhere as head coach. The biggest mystery is why anyone thinks this will change after he's had how many HC gigs????

No, we're back to there is a faction of our fanbase that is classless and pure trash and their constant whining has made the fanbase a laughingstock across the country.
I have worked and discussed sports with people all over the country. Been doing it for years. I have never heard anyone say anything negative about Volunteer fans.
On the contrary, I’ve heard a lot of positive things said about the UT fan base. Their welcoming attitude to visiting fans and their devotion to the team by showing up in droves even in down years are just a couple of the comments.

I can tell that you have a strong passion for UT sports and for that I have great admiration.
We all want the team to succeed.

Go Vols!

Sure. I think we can all agree that the Big-12 and Pac-12 aren't the SEC. I would also argue both of those conferences were down when Leach was in them. I agree that he is at least a proven winner. Pruitt was not (and likely won't ever be). I just have serious doubts that he'll ever get something done at Miss. St. like he did at Wash St and Texas Tech.

I mean Texas and Oklahoma both won national titles while he was at Tech, if you take that as being down. His first class at Miss State isn't complete yet and it's already better than any he had at Washington State. I expect he will win at a similar level to Mullen at MSU which for them is an 8-10 wins a year kind of ceiling.

Michigan State's offense under Mel Tucker is one of the few worse than Tennessee's under Pruitt, and Steele's only stint as HC was a disaster at Baylor. I'd say either of them would be a wash in comparison to Pruitt unless Steele manages to get the Auburn job and proves otherwise.

I guess the 1000 yard view of the situation would be that they all pretty well suck and that was Fulmer's 3 finalists.

Which points to an even bigger problem down the road When they do end things with Pruitt.

Fans are frustrated by Pruitt’s lack of progress developing players and “closing the gap”, so I guess we are even

No doubt that we treat others great, it's how a certain faction of the fanbase treats the entire Vol family that is a problem. They wouldn't spout off like they do if given the opportunity behind locker room doors to the players or Pruitt, I think its classless and trashy and I hope more folks start to call them on it. Everyone wants to see the team succeed, pouting and whining like middle schoolers when we don't isn't helping us accomplish that goal.

I just hope some on here don't have children. If they do I hope they are not following the example on here. My 10 year old loves the Vols but I have stopped letting him read this website. I don't want him to think he should act like some of the posters on here do. EVERYONE has a right to be upset or disappointed in the results of this year. I just wish we could show some class and drop the name calling and personal attacks. The sad thing is most of the posters on here couldn't do the laundry for the team but they act like they are experts at how to coach. We do have a right to say the coach has made mistakes or he is in over his head. We have a right to say we want him replaced if that is how you feel. It makes me sad that I can't let my son on here for now. I have tried to teach him to act with respect and not be a bully. He asked me last night why I even read this crap. I told him I love the Vols and the bad posts are only a small part of the fan base. I tried to explain that if everyone with class walks away then the classless mob is all that is left to represent VolNation. He said good luck and let me know if I can ever get back on here. SMH

The title of this thread reminds me of when boosters were pulling the use of planes from Cuonzo

Wait in vain for Fulmer to hire Lane Kiffin. Unless serious friction develops, his moving from OM to TN might not be a decision he, himself would make. Yes, TN is a bigger program, but my guess is that he wants to put in several years and prove himself at OM.

Pruitt is frustrated by lack of fan support...... The UTAD canceled the VOL Caravan because he didn't want that kind of interaction with fans. He not only closed practices to everyone but he curtailed access to the program. Media has very limited access . No access to assistants in season. I recall he canceled one fan day .Another was canceled by Covid I get it . This guy is bitching about fan support but he has done nothing to endear fans to him

Pruitt has a contract thru 2025. Your statement would mis-lead people to believe he has an 8 year contract. He does not. It was prudent to extend Pruitt's contact after last season. it appeared we were headed in the right direction. In hindsight, it might have been a mistake. We'll know for sure after next season. All these head coach contracts are a calculated risk. If you don't extend it and the coach has a great season, his contract gets bid up and you might end up paying more than you would have otherwise. If he flops, you're stuck paying him more than he's worth.
What was the upside/downside to signing Pruitt for an extension when he still had 2 years on the contract? There was very little upside to that extension given you already had him on contract. The only downside to not signing the extension was having to pay him more when we did decide to extend (assuming he performed). But at that point you have excellent evidence and can more easily justify the expense. Amateur AD moves at best and I like Fulmer.

I think being outscored 71-155 in the second half of every game this year (including our wins) qualifies as either A: quitting or B: unable to play a full game at a competitive level. Both of which are bad. And to add, yes this group is worse than when Pruitt was hired. Look at Lyle’s record at his best, a few points shy of a 11 win season regular season (2015). This also includes a win against Georgia. Now yes, regression hit hard however Lyle inherited 0 talent from Dooley and accomplished this in YEAR 3. Stop acting high and mighty with BS regarding your opinions about our fan base. People can believe whatever they want, we don’t need a life coach with half baked opinions and a superiority complex lecturing about how to properly be a fan. Bye Felicia.
Nice Post. Simply comparing the HC skill set of B Jones and Pruitt demonstrates that Jones is head and shoulders above Pruitt. Both are horrible in leadership. I have never seen an SEC HC that lacks so much skill as Pruitt. Pruitt clearly works hard - he is just so far in over his head that it is very sad.

I think you’ve created this narrative in your mind.

I’m old enough to remember “Go Johnny Go and take Devoe” taking the town by storm.

EXACTLY, and it's at every fanbase. Johnny called sports talk callers "the legions of the miserable". The only difference today is that there is social media. Fans are fans, and have been the same. Social media amplifies it and gives it a megaphone.

Bid farewell to the endless summer of FIRE MALZAHN

I'm not sure what else Jeremy Pruitt thinks he should be given that he does not have at the moment. We're spending top-dollar for assistants and until this disaster of a season he had plenty of fan support around the program. If he is so soft that he is mad fans want him fired after an historically terrible year, I don't know what else to say. At that point, he should just resign and go be a DC.

If this is how Pruitt actually feels, I'm not sure how you can justify giving him another year to tank the program further. Give him his walking papers and let him go be a DC somewhere else if that's what will make him happy.
Couldn’t blame him one bit!
